Professional singer and voice teacher/performance coach, piano teacher, guitar for singers teacher

God made us in His image, and to me one of the best ways to see that is through our ability to create art. Making music, whether through manipulating our voices or with our hands manipulating an instrument, we are capable of creating such aural beauty and expression - in ways that can only point to something beyond ourselves - and affect others around us in such positive ways. Oh, even in my 60s I still truly long to find singing buddies who work as hard mentally to have THIS kind of fun.

Come jam with me Saturday at 7!

Life of an Indiana State School Music Association District Solo Contest Group I Adjudicator who lives in Indianapolis:
1) Fill your gas tank.
2) Drive 165 miles to Evansville, thankful for I-69.
3) Check into a hotel and get a good night's sleep.
4) Be at the Saturday contest site by 7:30 a.m. to go over all the rules and regulations with the other judges.
5) Listen to nearly 50 singers, one at a time, in 6 minute time slots, and hastily assess, score, and give thorough advice, tips and encouragement on paper to each, sending them off to receive their gold or silver medals (MOSTLY GOLD!) Sharpen 5 pencils at least 3 times each.
6)During lunch break, take some ibuprofen for the midday headache. Listen to some interesting reports from other judges during lunch. Get back to it!
7) Finish judging around 3:45, and get back on the road around 4:15, 5:15 your time actually.
8) Nearly run out of gas about an hour from home. It's dark and the snow has been relentless. Thank God for the Elletsville Exit Shell Station after some anxiety watching the gas gauge plummet on this lonely highway!
9) Stumble into the house close to 8 p.m. and go straight to bed.
10) Look forward to hearing the gold medalists again a few weeks later at State Contest, which is right down the street!

Friends and those interested in my Private Music Teaching:

I've been giving it my best shot for over 40 years, this private teaching thing. The only time I ever had more than 20 students a week consistently was back in 2008 or 9 when my husband lost his job and we were desperate.

Even then, I didn't "look" for students; I didn't advertise. They just called and signed up and came.

I've never put forth any real effort at advertising. Oh, I'll post a generic invite here and there. And sometimes I tell my current students after they give me a compliment on my teaching, "tell your friends! I need a few more like you!" lol. But basically I have always just trusted that the number of students I have is the number of students I NEED to have, and God's in control of all that.

Lately I've only had about 2 or 3 students in any given week. I could be sad about that. I LOVE teaching, LOVE helping a singer or a piano player grow more skilled, more in love with the process of making music, etc. I truly do! And YES, we COULD definitely use the money!

But it is what it is. I really don't want to keep up this page any longer. So I'm going to close it down.

If you have followed this page at all and are not subscribed to my YouTube channel, would you do me a MASSIVE MASSIVE huge favor? Go to YouTube and type into the search. Or type Kristin Elizabeth Morris. Either of those ought to get you to my channel.

I'm about to start making weekly videos there, mostly psalms&hymns&spiritualsongs related, but I plan to speak FREELY as long as I'm allowed by law to speak freely, and I have plenty to say, prompted and boundaried, of course, by the Holy Spirit and the songs I'll be featuring that week. I'd love it if you would subscribe, like the videos (if you like them!) and SHARE them on your socials if they mean anything to you, or share with friends you think might be blessed. Thank you and God bless you all.

Woke up Tuesday morning with a very sore throat. Wednesday morning with sinusitis. Thursday morning with bronchitis. Friday morning with a horrendous dry cough every time I tried to breathe, all day and into the night. Everything cancelled, lots of rest, lots of prayer, lots of liquids these four days. Today is Saturday and I'm breathing again. We all get these darn viruses - but I'm thanking God this one went through me fast and it's over! Sometimes ya just gotta hunker down and stay home and shut up and heal. Putting on that mask so I can go see a student in her musical tonight! Stay healthy, y'all!

This guy grew up in a house where mom was teaching a voice lesson just about every day when he got off the bus. He grew up listening to lessons, probably not actively, but passively from another room. I remember only one or two conversations with him over the years about how to more easily access his upper range (he's a natural bass). It was fun to hear my son just spontaneously whip out "Defying Gravity" like it's nothing. That song is definitely NOT "nothing!"

Judging jazz choirs in northern Indiana Saturday!

Thus, alas, no Second Sat Song Soiree. Have to cancel this one. Looking forward to April!

So many reach out asking about my rates. Someone came back to me after reading my information and said, "I'll circle back one of these days, after I win the lottery." Ouch!!! Seriously?

I try hard to keep my rates as low as is feasible and to offer flexibility, LOTS of grace in missing lessons if you are committed to weekly study, semester commitment discounts, sibling and group discounts, methods of payment, etc. And I also offer by appointment, no obligation sessions as well!

If you need or want private lessons in voice, piano or guitar, but cannot afford weekly semester commitments, that's cool, I get it! You can see me on a "by appointment" basis, just like getting a single therapy consult or massage, or your hair done or whatever! I'll give you awesome musical and physiological tools to work on on your own, and the beauty of online free resources will carry you through until you can book another one on one checkup! If you truly desire to grow as a musician and are willing to put in the personal effort on your own, YOU CAN DO THIS!

That said, compare a semester of weekly lessons to any tuition in any course of study, and you'll find this investment to be highly affordable and worthwhile. Reach out for details! (Leave a voice message if you call, or a text message here on my page!)
