IU's seasonal Space Heater Exchange program concluded this spring semester with a total of 222 high-wattage space heaters exchanged for energy-efficient alternatives.

The exchanges are projected to save approximately 119,050 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually—about the amount of electricity used by nearly 17 average U.S. homes in one year—while reducing utility costs by an estimated $20,190 each year and improving occupant comfort.

Thanks a partnership between IU Capital Planning and Facilities and IUI Campus Facility Services, an automated schedule has been implemented to turn off Wood Fountain in the evening hours, rather than running 24/7 during the summer season. This change is expected to result in ~$3,220/year electric cost savings, with additional water savings anticipated and to be monitored in the future.

As a campus, we spent April planting trees, fixing broken belongings, tracking our waste, and giving a second life to donated items. Between bike repairs and committing to new sustainable routines, it was a truly rewarding month.

We appreciate you making our campus more sustainable!
