Who Are We? 🐾

Welcome to IPS Eliza Blaker School 55, a Butler Lab Reggio-Inspired School! Our school was created through a partnership between Indianapolis Public Schools and Butler University, beginning at William Bell School 60 in 2011 before expanding to Eliza Blaker School 55 in 2018. Our name honors Eliza Blaker, a renowned Indianapolis educator who championed the free kindergarten movement in the 1800s, while our identity as a Butler Lab School reflects our ongoing collaboration with Butler College of Education and Human Development professors and students to research, reflect, and continually grow our practice.

And what on earth is a Boltdog? 🐶⚡ Before becoming a Lab School, IPS School 55 students proudly called themselves the Bolts. When our Butler University partnership began, we brought together the legacy of the Bolts with Butler’s Bulldog mascot and the Boltdog was born!

At the heart of who we are is a belief that all children are competent and capable, that every child brings unique strengths and perspectives to our community, and that there is more than one way to learn. Through spaces that spark curiosity, projects inspired by students’ interests, and strong partnerships with families, we strive to nurture lifelong learners who are inspired to transform the world.

We are IPS Eliza Blaker School 55. We are Reggio-inspired. We are a Butler Lab School. We are the Boltdogs! 💙🐾⚡
