AATE was proud to join colleagues across the graduate education community in Washington, D.C, for a congressional briefing on the Department of Education's RISE final rule.

Representing athletic training education, Dr. Nicole Wilkins and Cianna Frazer shared perspectives on how federal policy may influence educational pathways, workforce development, and access to graduate education.

We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with partners across healthcare and higher education to advocate for students, educators, and the future workforce.

Our students deserve access. Our profession deserves recognition. That’s why AATE has joined the Advanced Professional Workforce Alliance (APWA).

A newly finalized federal rule could limit graduate student borrowing and phase out the Graduate PLUS loan, creating serious concerns for future athletic trainers and other healthcare professions pursuing graduate education.

AATE is proud to stand alongside fellow healthcare organizations advocating for legislative clarity, delayed implementation timelines, and better recognition of professional healthcare programs.

As National Athletic Training Month comes to a close, this story captures exactly why we celebrate athletic trainers. 💙

When Angel City Football Club defender Savy King collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest, immediate, expert care made all the difference. Hollie Walusz, MA, ATC, PES, Head of Medical for Angel City FC, acted without hesitation — performing life saving CPR and exemplifying the critical role athletic trainers play in emergency response.

Hollie’s impact extends far beyond the field. From 2018–2025, she served as a CAATE volunteer, helping elevate athletic training education and prepare the next generation of clinicians:

• Chair, Residency Committee (2018–2021)
• Chair, Residency & Fellowship Accreditation Council (2022–2025)

Because of moments like this and professionals like Hollie, Savy is now back on the pitch, recently playing her first game since her cardiac event. Together with the NWSL and the American Heart Association, Savy is turning her experience into action, bringing Hands Only CPR and AED education to all 16 NWSL teams.
