Thereβs something magical about the turning of seasons. Cooler air, colorful leaves and the joy of discovering all the changes fall brings. Our little learners have been exploring the wonders of autumn in every wayβ¦ even by getting their hands a little messy exploring the inside of a pumpkin! πβ¨
To celebrate the season, we wrapped up with a Spirit Week that included all kinds of fun: Spooky Pajama Day, Fall Sweater Day and of course, a parade of costumes for Halloween! π»πΈοΈ
From squishy pumpkin seeds to cozy sweaters and big smiles, our school is full of laughter, curiosity and joy.
π Happy Halloween from all of us at Midtown ELC! π
Hereβs to the beauty of fall and the wonder it inspires in every child!

Getting MELC littles outside is one of our favorite things to do.
This summer, students have loved caring for our MELC garden and observing close-up the workings of nature and appreciating its many benefits, including tasty vegetables.
We have all learned patience, independence and teamwork as we've tended the plants, carefully picked ripe veggies and then turned them into tasty foods like bruschetta and pasta sauce.
Yum, cooking classes with Ms. Carolina using freshly picked ingredients from our garden have become highlights of our summer!

MELC littles focus on the sensory experience and creative process of art and are encouraged to express themselves through all sorts of materials - from kiwi and kale to shaving cream and textured painting with salt.
With the Reggio Emilia approach, students exploring art materials and tools is just as important as the final masterpiece - which are proudly hung on many refrigerators!

Spring has brought MELC students out to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air with class strolls around the neighborhood to see flowers blooming, watering seeds we are patiently watching grow and many outdoor sensory activities with eggs, water and more.
Spring has sprung and MELC littles can't get enough of it!

Gobble, gobble, gobble! We love our little MELC turkeys and are full of gratitude for all of the love shared between students, families and staff! We have spent the last two weeks enjoying the final festivities of fall and making crafts in honor of our infants' FIRST Thanksgiving and our toddlers' wonder of fall and celebration of friendship.
Some of our favorite activities included our infants shake painting with pinecones and our toddlers cork painting leaves and practicing their fine motor skills trying to take the corn off the cob one by one.
Happy Thanksgiving. Feeling especially grateful this year for our village of supporters as MELC celebrates its FIRST Thanksgiving! ππ

As we inch toward winter in Indianapolis, MELC littles have loved experiencing all things fall!
There is something about a big pile of leaves that is irresistible to toddlers and exploring the inside of a pumpkin that makes you giggle and squeal. MELC babies enjoyed the "mess-free" version with dried corn rattles and pumpkin sensory bags, among activities... All topped off with a fall festival enjoyed with family and friends.
We're going to miss pumpkin season and all the laughter and spice that comes with it!

It was a faboolous and spooky day at MELC! We had a little pirate, space martian and Elsa in attendance among other fun characters.
Wishing everyone in Midtown all treats and no tricks this evening. Happy Halloween! π

Recently, MELC teachers spent time with learning best practices for creating a Reggio-inspired curriculum for infants and toddlers. Our teachers are passionate about finding age friendly ways to connect students to nature, their community and the world around them.
