Hello! My name is Livia Bogdan. I grew up in Fishers, IN, and went to undergrad at Purdue. I majored in Chemical Biology and Biochemistry and graduated in the spring of 2025. I spent the past year at Nationwide Children’s Hospital doing research on the impact of urinary tract obstruction on the kidneys. I have a strong passion for nephrology, and I hope to continue some form of kidney research at IU. In my free time, I love to cycle (gravel, fixed gear), hike, spend time outside, read, and hang out with my cats.

Hi everyone! I am really excited to start at IU this summer. I moved from Southeast Michigan with my partner. I grew up with two older brothers and am a first-generation college student. I have recently gotten back into reading and am currently making my way through The Three Musketeers novels. I also enjoy symphony shows and museums, and I am excited to attend performances at the Indianapolis Symphony and visit Newfields. Scientifically, my background is in male infertility, but I am open to other fields, and I look forward to exploring microscopy techniques further and developing biomarkers for the field in which I conduct my graduate studies.

Hello! My name is Corinne, and I grew up in Sellersburg, Indiana. I have one older brother, and together we had a special interest in Entomology – we used to raise Monarch butterflies from our backyard and tag them to follow their migration.

I was a competitive swimmer for 13 years and visited the Indianapolis region frequently for competitions. I love yoga, swimming, hiking, thrifting, exploring new coffee shops or farmers' markets, and anything social.

Hi y’all, I’m Hannah! I grew up in the suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio, and went to college in Atlanta at Georgia Tech. I’ve spent the last three years in D.C. at the NIH. Science-wise, I’m a big neuroscience gal, planning to get my PhD in Medical Neuroscience and eventually practice as a neurologist clinician-scientist. Outside of that, I’m a massive foodie, and my goal during my eight years in Indy is to discover every hidden-gem restaurant in the city. I also love live music and would love a concert buddy! I believe that I exemplify the “everything but country” trope – main genres are experimental rock, indie folk, modern jazz, synth pop, and some golden oldies. Lastly, I am a (very mediocre) powerlifter and will force new friends to bench with me at least once!

Hi all! My name is Caroline Shumaker and I was born and raised in Indiana, completing my undergrad in 2023 (Biology/Neuroscience) and master’s in 2024 (Intelligent Systems Engineering) at IU Bloomington. My prior research has been interdisciplinary across psychology, neuroscience, and bioengineering, with a central goal of better understanding the pathways underlying mood and substance use disorders.

After graduation, I spent time in Pohang, South Korea, and Budapest, Hungary, for research, which has grown into a love for learning about new cultures. I enjoy traveling … but not the actual traveling part since one of my biggest fears is flying! I love music and enjoy playing multiple instruments (with varying levels of success), as well as photography, roller skating, and enjoying the great outdoors.

We're excited to introduce the newest members of the Indiana MSTP! Over the coming weeks, we'll be spotlighting our incoming MS1 students and sharing a little about the future physician-scientists joining our community. First up: Kelvin!

👋 Hey everyone! My name is Kelvin, and I’m originally from Chengdu, China, but moved to the United States when I was in sixth grade and am currently based in Jacksonville, Florida. Outside of medicine and research, I love swimming and going on cruises with my family! In fact, it was during our family's 2025 Christmas cruise that I played Monopoly for the first time and discovered how much I love the game!

🎨 One of my longest-running hobbies has been a daily art sketch project that I started in March 2020, where I challenge myself to create at least one sketch every day. I'm excited to meet everyone and look forward to getting to know the MSTP community over the next several years! 😊
