We are a partnership of many faiths and cultures from two continents, united in our service to change lives by keeping orphaned and vulnerable children in western Kenya in school. The vision of the Umoja Project is to develop a compassionate and comprehensive network of care which responds to the needs of these children by:

- Supporting children and their families through broad-based services;
-

Building the long-term capacity of families, communities, and local faith-based organizations to implement, coordinate, and sustain services for children; and
- Strengthening linkages among faith-based and community-based service providers to ensure local support is coordinated and effective. Our partnership model enables our two coalitions to build on respective strengths and resources while working together to build a strong support system for the children. Members of each coalition provide education and advocacy in their respective congregations, denominations, governmental structures and larger communities, as well as mobilize the resources necessary to support the Umoja Project.

Last week, the Umoja team in Kenya met with our primary guardian officials for their termly meeting to share important updates about our students and programs.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss termly programs, upcoming activities, and important updates as we prepare for our upcoming fundraising event in October in Kenya. Together, we continue working to ensure our students have access to education. ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’™

We are grateful for the continued partnership and commitment of our guardians and community leaders. When we work together, we can create even more opportunities for our children and their families. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿš๐Ÿ’› A Lunch. A Moment. A Difference.

Thereโ€™s something special about lunchtime at Huma Primary School. ๐Ÿ’™

For these students, a school lunch is more than a meal. It means having food in their stomachs so they can focus in the classroom, participate in lessons, and make the most of their school day. ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

Across Umoja Partnershipโ€™s 21 partner schools in Kenya, thousands of orphaned and vulnerable children depend on the school lunch program.

Thatโ€™s why our Food For Thought Campaign matters so much!

๐Ÿ’› $50 can provide school lunch for one child for an entire year.

Working Together for Our Students! ๐Ÿ’™

Yesterday, the Umoja team in Kenya gathered at our office for our termly meeting with Head Teachers and Link Teachers from all 21 of our partner primary schools across the greater Chulaimbo region.

As our final meeting of the year, the group had the opportunity to share updates from the term, discuss upcoming programs, and reflect on the progress of our students. ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

A major focus of our conversation was this year's fundraising campaign in Kenya. With the big day approaching, all of our school partners and stakeholders agreed to give their very best to help the Kenyan staff reach their goal and continue providing critical support to our students.

It was a productive and successful meetingโ€”and a wonderful reminder of what we can accomplish when schools, communities, staff, and supporters work together with one shared purpose: helping our children thrive. ๐Ÿ’›

Thank you to all of our Head Teachers, Link Teachers, and school partners for your continued partnership and commitment to our Umoja students!

Together, we are transforming communities one child at a time. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ 282 Umoja Students Supported. One School. One Daily Meal.

Look at these smiles from Ulalo Comprehensive School, where 282 Umoja students receive a nutritious school lunch each school day. ๐Ÿงก

For many of these children, the meal they receive at school may be one of the only reliable meal they have that day. A full stomach means more than simply satisfying hunger โ€” it gives students the energy and focus they need to learn, participate, and work toward their dreams.

This is why Umoja's Food for Thought Campaign matters.

Our goal is to raise $67,000 to ensure that the thousands of orphaned and vulnerable children we serve across 21 partner schools continue receiving the meals they depend on throughout the school year.

๐Ÿงก $50 provides school lunch for one child for an entire year.

Your gift can help put a meal in the hands of a child like the students pictured hereโ€”and give them the nourishment they need to keep learning.

๐Ÿ’™ Meet Ezra Thomas.

Ezra is a Grade 4 student at Chulaimbo Comprehensive School who has been part of the Umoja family since ECD. He is a vulnerable child with a big dream: to become a doctor. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ

When asked what Umoja means to him, Ezra shared: โ€œUmoja is important to me because it provides meals in school, and that helps me to concentrate well in class, work hard, and do well in my studies.โ€ ๐Ÿ’›

For Ezra, a nutritious school meal means more than having something to eat. It helps him stay focused in the classroom, giving him the energy he needs to learn, grow, and work toward his dream of becoming a doctor.

Through our Food for Thought Campaign, you can help ensure students like Ezra have the nourishment they need to succeed in school and pursue their dreams.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Just $50 provides one student with school lunches for an entire year.
