Hello R110 Students!

10/13/2022

Hello R110 Students! Here are some tips to help you get started on your third speech, the informative II speech, which is called the explanation speech. The explanation speech is a chance for you to teach your class about a concept. This should be done in way kind of like a professor introduces a new topic, but should not be done in the way a how to speech is. The time requirement for this speech is 5-7 minutes and four sources are required for this speech. A reminder that you should cite your sources in your outline parenthetically and verbally and also have a works cited page in MLA format. When you are choosing a topic make sure you do one you are familiar with or have done research on to familiarize yourself. Also, make sure you are choosing credible sources that are relevant to your speech and audience. Don’t forget to come get help if you are struggling or even if you’re not! You can find us in Cavanaugh Hall room 001G and we are opened Monday-Thursday from 10am-4pm.

Hello R110 Students! Here are some tips to help you get started on your second speech, the informative speech.

There are many different informative speeches, which includes the How-To, SEEI-Impact, and This I Believe. The time requirement for these speeches is 5-7 minutes and requires you to have at least four sources. When you are choosing sources make sure to choose credible sources and that the source is relevant to your audience. Since this is your first time using sources in your outline, make sure you cite in your speech verbally and parenthetically and have your sources cited in a works cited page in MLA format.

Don’t forget to come get help if you are struggling or even if you’re not! We are open from 10am-4pm Monday-Thursday for assistance!

Hey R110 students! One common mistake that we find when reviewing outlines is not following the Rule of Two.

To follow the Rule of Two means for every point A, you need a point B; and for every 1, you need a 2. This ensures that you have enough information in your speech and it is balanced in your outline.

Be sure to follow the Rule of Two throughout your entire speech!

Hey Jaguars! We hope your introduction speeches are coming along nicely! If you are struggling or just need a little extra help, here are some tips on writing an introduction speech!

The types of introduction speeches that are used within the R110 course are proverb, connections, object, tell me about yourself, and individuals in a community.

When choosing a topic within your speech, make sure it is something you are passionate about or could talk about for a long time. For example, when it comes to the proverb speech, pick a proverb that has significant meaning to you. A great place to find a meaningful proverb is Pinterest!

If you need further help or clarification on your introduction speech, feel free to visit the speaker’s lab website, canvas site, or come visit us in Cavanaugh Hall!
