Our Friday Feature: Her Story at Cathedral features Kathy Bethuram, the woman who was Cathedral’s first Director of Technology.
Back in the late 80’s, she was a math teacher who was intrigued by technology and began taking classes, eventually earning a CNA (Certified Network Administrator) certificate. She led the effort to help bring Cathedral into the technology age.
“I am most proud of my achievements as the first Director of Technology at Cathedral High School,” said Bethuram. “During that period, I ran ethernet wires throughout the school by crawling through the school’s ceilings along with fellow teacher, Bob Seal, allowing for the installation of the first classroom computers.”
Bethuram built the foundation for Cathedral’s technology footprint. She purchased computers, built firewalls, and helped digitize grades and attendance. It was a unique and difficult challenge that she took on with enthusiasm and absolutely no fear.
Bethuram worked at Cathedral from 1988 until 2019. During that time, she taught math and served as Cathedral’s Director of Educational Data, and Director of Technology. She helped establish Cathedral’s relationship with our website designer, FinalSite. She oversaw the installation of fiber-optic infrastructure, enabling campus-wide communication and internet access. Also, among other priorities, she installed hubs, routers, and high-end switches, affording wireless connectivity for the campus.
Thank you, Kathy Bethuram, for leading Cathedral’s technology efforts into the 21st century. Your work forever changed the landscape of our school. When receiving the call, you jumped in and led the way! Thank you for your legacy and your service to our beloved school.
With her leading, we shall not tire.

Linda Bamrick and Adam Barth were awarded the Blessed Father Basil Moreau Award, which honors Cathedral classroom educators who excel in the classroom, demonstrate leadership and service to the Cathedral family and community, and embody Cathedral’s Core Values through their daily attitudes and actions.
Shannon Braun received the Saint Brother Andre Bessette Award, which recognizes an exemplary Cathedral non-classroom educator whose attitude and behavior reflect Cathedral’s Core Values. Recipients of this award exhibit consistent conscientious effort, generous service to others, involvement in student activities, demonstration of Christian values, and a polite, positive, and helpful attitude.

On this Why Cathedral Wednesday, we share a beautiful story of family and faith.
Ryan Kenny ’28, a member of our state championship basketball team, was recently confirmed at Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church. His teammates, Keaton Aldridge ’26 and Julien Smith ’26, surprised Ryan and showed up at the Mass to show their support. The large group photo includes, from left to right, our own Fr. Geoff Mooney, C.S.C., Keaton, Ryan, Julien, and Ryan’s brother, Aaron Kenny ’29.
These students are not just teammates, they are brothers and champions both on and off the court, proving that our Holy Cross Values of Family and Excellence continue to thrive.
Fr. Geoff served as the sponsor for Holy Spirit at Geist and Cathedral student, Lucas Weiland ’27. Posing with Fr. Geoff and Lucas is Lucas’s mom, Christine Weiland.
Many Cathedral students have been confirmed in the past few weeks, and we are so proud of all of them. We are also proud of the support our students receive from their peers and fellow educators.
“While we prepare useful citizens for society, we shall likewise do our utmost to prepare citizens for heaven.” - Bl. Basil Moreau, Founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross

On this Memorial Day, a day dedicated to honoring and remembering the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our nation, we invite you to explore the slides created by Cathedral alum and current parent, Scott Taylor ’90. Scott’s extensive research into the R.V. Welch family brings to light not only Mr. Welch’s legacy and the significance of the R.V. Welch Activity Center, but also the inspiring story of the Welch family’s enduring service and profound sacrifice for our country.
Additionally, Cathedral is proud to launch a campaign to honor the legacy of service of our all-girls academies and Cathedral family members who have served in any branch or auxiliary of the armed forces. This historic initiative will officially begin on July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. We encourage you to begin gathering stories, names, and dates of service, and we will soon share more details about how you can contribute to this meaningful tribute.
Special thanks to Scott Taylor’ 90 for leading this important effort as we honor those who fought and died for our freedom. God bless dear old Cathedral, and God bless America.

This week, Cathedral was honored to celebrate the retirement of one of our cherished colleagues. The timing could not have been more meaningful—her recognition coincides with our 50 Years of Cathedral Women celebration, making this milestone even more special since she was part of the first graduating class to include women.
Jean Glenn ’77 Harris devoted 29 years of heartfelt service to Cathedral High School, leaving an enduring mark on our community. Her family’s roots run deep on the Hill. We are especially grateful for the compassion she showed, guiding and supporting families through her work in Cathedral’s business office.
Thank you, Jean, for your extraordinary service to dear old Cathedral. We hope you enjoy your much-deserved retirement.
With her leading, we shall not tire.
