Dauntless Sailing School LEARN TO SAIL! Discover the fun of sailing with Indiana’s top choice for adult beginners.

With over 1,600 students and 16 years of instruction we turn sailing dreams into reality through fun, hands-on lessons designed especially for adult beginners. Started in 2009 by technology entrepreneur, accomplished sailor, and licensed sailboat Captain Todd Bracken, Dauntless Sailing School is focused on introducing adults to the adventure and fun of “big boat” sailing through affordable, hands-

on, experiential learning opportunities including introductory cruises, beginner to advanced sailing instruction, Great Lakes excursions, regatta participation, and ocean coastal cruising expeditions.

Dauntless Sailing School family,

One of our own, Matt Mahoney, has unfortunately suffered significant damage to his relatively new business, Aqua Marine, in the recent floods.

Matt is not only a graduate of our Adult Beginner Sailing Course and a participant in one of our Caribbean Sailing excursions, but he is also a longtime and cherished personal friend (and the “Best Man” at our wedding last year).

Over the past 18 years, Matt has been an invaluable asset to Dauntless Sailing School. He has generously volunteered literally hundreds of uncompensated or undercompensated hours of his expertise and effort to Dauntless Sailing School. Notably, he has completely rebuilt the diesel engine on Dauntless, not once, but twice. He has also contributed to numerous other projects involving both Dauntless and her trailer. Much of what I’ve learned about diesel engine maintenance, DC electrical systems, and welding has come from observing Matt’s hands-on work on Dauntless.

If Dauntless Sailing School has had a positive impact on your life, Matt has been a part of making that happen, even if you weren’t aware of it.

I kindly invite you to join me in supporting Matt during this challenging time and in his efforts to recover his business. Please consider joining me and donating to his GoFundMe campaign. Dauntless Sailing School is committed to helping our DSS family, and I hope you’ll join me in extending our support to one of our own.

If you at all can, please donate today. Every penny helps.

LAUNCH EVENT ALERT!

Today's the big day! DAUNTLESS is finally ready to be re-launched into her slip on Geist Reservoir. Join us at 7:30 pm at Geist Lake Marina to witness the excitement.

If you're interested in lending a hand or simply observing the process of stepping the mast and launching the vessel, it's a great educational experience.

Please RSVP to let us know you're coming.

We also very much need help with pre-transport preparations. Specifically, we need 3-4 able-bodied people to help lift the mast and place it back atop the boat in preparation for over-the-road transport to the marina. If you are able to help with this part of the process, please meet up with us at my house at 5:30 pm.

Ready just in time for this weekend's ECSC Mayor's Cup Regatta, our new-to-us J/24 "UNDAUNTED" is making its inaugural regatta debut sporting new GOT-Themed boat graphics and new matching team jerseys.

As part of our Sailing Performance/Regatta Participation course (the next step up from our very popular flagship Adult Beginner Sailing Course) "Team Undaunted" students have the opportunity to improve upon their basic sailing skills in the fun environment of actual regatta participation.

It's not about being a "racer" or being competitive, for Dauntless Sailing School it's about having fun and incrementally improving your sailing skills in an environment where you can actually measure and see your sailing skill improvements through your weekly race results.

Haaayyyy! WTH??? Someone should tell him I created the infamous Captain Todd “Dog Ear” knot over a decade and a half ago!

Calm down, internet keyboard warriors, I know it’s very likely not a “created” or “new” knot.

However, the Captain Todd “Dog Ear” knot is an excellent way to coil and neatly stow running rigging, especially halyards, that you may need to unknot the line quickly and have the line coil running free reliably.

It is one of the essential knots we teach as part of our flagship, hands-on, Adult Beginner Sailing course. Are you an adult who has thought about learning to sail? With over 1,700 participants to date, come and discover why Dauntless Sailing School is the #1 choice in the Midwest for adult beginners.

We’re launching the new Dauntless Sailing School Scholarship Fund— and we need your help before April 18.

For 17 years, I’ve believed sailing should be accessible to people from all walks of life, not just those with abundant financial means. This scholarship fund will help qualified applicants with financial need access meaningful sailing education and experiences.

One current qualified applicant is Elijah, a neurodivergent young adult I’ve had the privilege of watching grow through sailing and through his experience with Dauntless Sailing School. He completed our Adult Beginner Sailing Class, continued into our Regatta/Performance Sailing Course, and helped “Team Undaunted” finish 1st Place in the ECSC Summer Regatta Series. More importantly, I’ve seen him become more confident, more engaged, and more willing to step forward and participate fully with the team.

His mother is already signed up for our upcoming Exumas Catamaran Sailing Excursion, departing this month, and we would love to help support current and future qualified applicants, including Elijah, through this fund.

My wife and I will match the first $1,000 in qualifying donations, dollar for dollar, for contributions of $100 or more.

$2,295 fully funds one Exumas trip-fee scholarship.
