Over the past couple of weeks, we have been learning about proper livestock nutrition and total daily rations (TDR). To end the nutrition unit of my Intro to Animal and Dairy Science class, students were assigned a specific species and scenario that they had to use to design their own livestock feed. After receiving feedback from a large animal veterinarian, the students had to revise their formulas. To end this activity, the students actually got to make their own “livestock feed” with snacks they could eat themselves the snacks they used represented different feedstuffs in their actual formula. They had to weigh out correct portions and do the calculations of percentages themselves. Overall, the students enjoyed the activity…. Even if it was just because of the snacks!

1 Day Until District Eliminations 💙💛🎉

Today, several of our Agriscience studens had the opportunity to tour Mississippi State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Students had the opportunity to interact with undergraduate students, graduate students, professors, and instructors within CALS to learn more about prospective programs. Students heard from the Animal and Dairy Science, Poultry Science, Food Science and Nutrition, Landscape Architecture, and Agricultural Education Departments. They also had the opportunity to visit the College of Veterinary Medicine and College of Forest Resources. The students learned so much valuable information to use in their future decisions when choosing a college and degree program. Thank you to everyone that helped make this trip possible!
