Upcoming events in our FOUND Speaker Series
November 1st at 4pm, we are hosting Sherlock Holmes enthusiast and retired forensic scientist, David Zauner! David Zauner was a forensic scientist, specializing in latent print examination, with the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency (IMCFSA) for over 27 years. Join us in the exploration of the state of forensics in the time period of the Holmes stories and explore the parallels between the methods of the Great Detective and those used today. Following the talk, a special Halloween activity will be held. They also learn from experts in the field regarding the process of human identification. Allen Livingston, 27, was identified from human remains found on Fox Hollow Farm in Indiana, giving his family closure after decades of searching.

The University of Indianapolis Human Identification Center started the Identify Indiana Initiative to address the large number of cold human remains cases in the state of Indiana. UIndy students interested in forensic science have the ability to learn more about the challenges of cold case work through mentors that are actively engaged in the work.
Coroner: Remains found 40 years ago in Newton County are a Chicago teen
Keith Bibbs, 16, was found in a shallow grave in an abandoned Newton County farm in October 1983 alongside the remains of three other young men. They were all victims of serial killer Larry Eyler.

At UIndy, students interested in pursuing the forensic sciences are taught and mentored by faculty that are actively doing forensic casework. The UIndy forensics team originally assisted law enforcement and the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office when this case first started in the 1990s. Due to numerous and significant challenges the case went cold. Last year, the newly elected Hamilton County Coroner was motivated to raise funds and create a team of specialists to begin reinvestigating the case. In the state of Indiana, the ability to make progress on death investigation is determined by the Coroner’s Office. Learn more about serial killer Herb Baumeister, Fox Hollow Farm, the victims and families they left behind, the various investigators that have worked over the years to bring names to the unidentified and justice to the families, and progress that has been made over the last year. Dr. Latham is the FOUND faculty advisor.
