FDIC RIT Combat Drills Description

RIT Combat Drills was created in 1999 by Jim Crawford of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire after the LODD loss of three Pittsburgh firefighters at the Bricelyn Street fire on Valentine's day 1995. Crawford's vision was to create a firefighter rescue course that removed the student from their comfort zone and forced them to learn through timed practice drills. The RIT Combat Drills program ran its 18th successful year at FDIC 2017. The course sold out each year with many return students. With an instructor cadre second to none in the field of firefighter rescue, the program will continue on and train students to give our brothers and sisters a chance when things go bad...

To breathe more life into the program and continue its success, FDIC 2018 will bring an updated program. The 2018 FDIC “RIT Combat Challenge” will be adding three new timed drills to the course. New this year will be a; firefighter through and stuck in the floor removal, a through the floor vertical removal drill, and a rapid removal firefighter CPR drill. For those that have been through the program the existing drills that will remain are the ever famous “Pittsburgh drill”, the collapsed floor lifting station, and the all to important High Anchor point Lowering System (HALS).
