Inspired by goose p**p. Gotta love this student's out-of-the-box thinking. ππ

Saw this "lump" today while driving through a property today. Stopped and backed up because it looked out of place. Surprise! Mama Doe ironically "parked" her fawn feet from a parking lot. A quick closer look showed it was fine thankfully. Double-checked with the DNR deer biologist about the risky location and was told that urban deer will sometimes put their fawns in less-than-optimal places. Apparently the Top Doe gets to choose the best spots and the rest down the pecking order get what's left. This fawn's mom must be at the bottom of the herd....After 22 years, I still learn something new every day!

The molt is on! Starting to see a few feathers here and there.
Coming soon to neighborhoods and parking lots everywhere, gaggles of flightless geese with goslings in tow, "greening up" sidewalks and turf by 2lbs a day in their walking wake. So you best watch where you're walking!

Poor painted turtle couldn't find an opening in the fence. I knew where one was and helped him out...literally. π

Example of a goose who must've lost her first nest and has re-nested. Mid-May is quite late for a goose to be incubating eggs. These eggs were very white and clean (meaning laid recently). Geese lay all their eggs before starting to incubate them for 28 days. They average one egg every day and a half. A side note, behind the goose is someone's idea of a high quality Happy Meal. Popcorn kernels in water. Better than bread, I suppose! A lot of people don't realize that birds sitting on eggs will leave their nest for food/water and cover the eggs with down/nesting material to keep them warm. If they needed human intervention to survive, there wouldn't be so many geese around and we'd be out of a job. π

Kayak Dog Chocolate Pie helped scare off some Mute Swans as we paddled out to an island for what ended up being an abandoned goose nest. She's a fun little dog to paddle around with, at 12lbs. she literally can't rock the boat. π

Another successful boat rescue! The boat went out of sight and into the side of a steep bank with overhanging shrubs. Brazos jumped into the water, found and dislodged it, then climbed the bank without dropping it. He's getting a big ole bone for that great job!

What a complete ham. Brazos blends in with the feathers!

A friend who knows I'm a knitter sent me this pic. Sadly, the yarn is no longer available. It was one of the Plimoth Patuxet Museum's most popular yarns!
