As drivers, it is our responsibility to practice safe defensive driving habits. Slow down when you see a cyclist ahead, scan carefully at crosswalks, and always expect the unexpected.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month!

As parents, you are your teens' first (and most important) driving instructors. Before they even sit in a driver education car, they have spent years watching you behind the wheel.

You may often tell them to "be safe" and "watch the road," but they need to know the specific Indiana rule, too: Under 21 means NO devices.

Probationary drivers can't use any device while driving, even "hands-free" is illegal.

Let's help them build that habit now:
✔️ Set the Rule: No devices while the car is in gear.
✔️ Set the Mode: Activate "Do Not Disturb While Driving" automatically.
✔️ Be the Example: Your texts and calls can wait. Show them that 100% of your attention belongs to the road.

🚨 ATTENTION DRIVERS: Did you know this week is National Vehicle Safety Recalls Week?

With nearly 30 million vehicles recalled last year alone, there’s a high chance your vehicle—or your teen’s vehicle—could have an open safety issue. From now until Sunday, we’re encouraging everyone to take 60 seconds to check their VIN.

Any necessary repairs are completed by authorized dealers at NO COST to you.

✅ Check your VIN here: NHTSA.gov/recalls

A simple habit that could prevent a major accident. 🛡️

When we're teaching our kids (or even driving ourselves), it’s easy to overlook this small but critical safety detail: Keep your tires straight while waiting to turn left. Why? If your vehicle is rear ended while your wheels are turned, you will be propelled directly into the path of oncoming traffic. Keeping your wheels straight ensures that, in the event of an impact, your car moves safely forward rather than into a head on collision.

Let's keep our families and our community safe on the road. Share this tip with the new drivers in your life!

It’s National Passenger Safety Week! 🚙
While we often emphasize teaching teens to be safe drivers, let’s not forget the crucial role that passengers play. Distractions inside the car can heighten stress and reduce focus, especially for new drivers. By promoting calm and supportive behavior from passengers, we can help create a safer driving environment for everyone.

Safety is a shared responsibility, whether you’re behind the wheel or riding along!
