Health educators most commonly are employed with state or local health departments, nonprofit organizations, hospitals (patient or public education), universities (student health centers or employee wellness), or corporations (employee health promotion). Exercise Science:
The purpose of the Exercise Science degree is to prepare students for entry-level employment in corporate fitness centers, health clubs, sports medicine clinics, cardiac rehabilitation programs, or other programs that require exercise testing and prescription. This degree is also an excellent science-based foundation for physical therapy and other graduate schools. Sport Management:
The University of Indianapolis Sport Management program provides students with a unique opportunity to learn about the business of sport through partnerships with local sports organizations including the NCAA, Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Indians, Indy Parks & Recreation, and Indiana Special Olympics. The curriculum provides for both classroom and hands-on experiences to train the student in working in the administration of sporting events and programs. Teaching Health and Physical Education (K-12):
The purpose of this degree is to prepare teachers and coaches who promote the development of healthy and physically educated persons. The department works in conjunction with the standards of the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, the Indiana Professional Standards Board, and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. Students develop skills in health and physical education teacher preparation, motor learning, instructional strategies, communication, diverse learners, assessment, reflection, and collaboration. Students are exposed to the classroom setting in the first semester of education course work. Additionally, students are equipped to teach others in the use and effectiveness of utilizing current technology such as heart rate monitors. Familiarity of current technologies, such as the heart rate monitor, makes the graduate much more employable. Students are also offered the potential to become certified in water safety instruction, a desirable teaching certification.

UIndy Sport Management alumna Audrey Becker Shafer is the event and program director of the NFL Combine, which will be staying in Indianapolis through 2024. Not only is this good news for Indianapolis, it's good news for UIndy to see a graduate excel and to be located close to the action, which provides significant hands-on opportunities for current Sport Management students.

After a threat that it could leave, the NFL Scouting Combine will remain in Indianapolis for at least the next two years.
