Congratulations to our teacher of the year, Mr. Damon Graham, and our staff member of the year, Mr. Jami Scott! 🎉

Fifth grade students finished their STEM project this week, exploring erosion and weathering in action! The challenge was to protect a sandcastle from crashing waves by designing barriers, moats, and seawalls. This hands on experiment sparked creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Way to go, fifth grade!

Our 5th graders took learning beyond the classroom at JA BizTown®, where they ran businesses, managed banks, wrote checks, and even voted for mayor. This hands-on experience helped them connect math, writing, and civics to the real world. We’re proud of the leadership, teamwork, and responsibility they showed throughout the day!

Join us for the annual IPS Summer Resource & Wellness Fair on Saturday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Shepherd Community Center, 4107 E. Washington St.

This fun and informative event will include more than 30 vendors featuring summer camps, internships, and jobs for teens.

There will also be health and fitness options onsite.

Our 3rd graders presented the Damien Center with several hand-made tie-knot blankets to support the Center’s mission to help those in need.

Due to ongoing low tempertures Washington Irving Neighborhood School will now be CLOSED today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026

Washington Irving is currently planning to operate on a 2-hour delay tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28.

However, we will reassess in the morning if we need to switch to a full closing. We will notify families by 6:00am if things change.

Due to weather conditions, Washington Irving Neighborhood School will be closed on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. We will make up this day on May 29, 2026.
