Today in the Upper School we celebrated the achievements of our artists who received awards from the Scholastics Art & Writing Competition in the Central & Southern Region of Indiana.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were founded in 1923 and, for more than a century, have inspired bold ideas in creative teens throughout the country. A few notable alumni include: Robert Indiana ’46, Andy Warhol ’45, Robert Redford ’54, Ken Burns ’71 and Amanda Gorman 2015.

All student entries are first considered regionally for Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention awards. Entries that win a Gold Key are automatically considered for national awards, including Gold Medal, Silver Medal, and scholarship awards.

All Gold Key winners from our region will have their work displayed in an Art Exhibition that will take place at Madam Walker Theatre next month.

For the Visual Arts Competition, there are 18 categories, and Park Tudor artists had notable achievements in Ceramics and Photography.

Taylor Schornhorst ’27 [Photography] received a Gold Key, an Honorable Mention and was one of five artists out of all Gold Key winners, in the 18 categories, to be nominated for the AMERICAN VOICES & VISIONS AWARD.

The American Voices Award for writing and the American Visions Award for art are prestigious honors that represent the different geographic regions of the Scholastic Awards.

Jurors from each region can select up to five works to be American Voices or Visions Award Nominees. To be nominated for the American Voices or Visions Award, participants must first earn a Gold Key in their region. These nominated works are then reviewed by national judges to receive American Voices or Visions Medals.
One nominee from each region will be selected to receive a national American Voices or Visions Medal.

Maélie Belfore ’26 [Ceramics] received a Silver Key for her sculptural ceramic piece. She recently committed to SCAD where she intends to study Fashion Design.

Chloe Sigua’28 [Photography] received one Gold Key and four Silver Keys.

Gail Ratcliff ’27 [Photography] received an Honorable Mention.
