📚🔍 Hey teachers, let's talk about a game-changing classroom practice: Exit Slips! 🙌🏼
These nifty slips give you a quick snapshot of what your students grasped from the lesson...
..but here's the KICKER: The ✨real magic happens when you use some genius annotations on those slips!
🖊️🎩 Those highlighter colors, letters, and symbols aren't just for show. They're purposeful grading that helps you sort your squad into different groups based on their understanding levels for the next time you see them. 🤫👥
🌟 Exit Slips are like your after-lesson detective kit— helping you decode who needs what. 🕵️♀️💡 So mark 'em up with intention (and even keep for data points, conferences, or portfolios.)
I've created a set with lots of variety and sticky note versions too. Give 'em a shot! Link in profile!

Perfection usually gets in the way, guys.
— Raise you hand if…
🔴 … you’ve ever struggled to START organizing something because of wanting to have it perfect.
🟠 … you’ve ever struggled to FINISH organizing something because of wanting to have it perfect.
🟡 … you’ve AVOIDED organizing something altogether because you thought there’d be no way you could do it perfectly.
🟢 … you’ve seen someone else organize something so perfect and your next thought was you couldn’t REPLICATE it yourself.
🔵 … you WANT to have organized systems, spaces, and routines that work but fall into the trap of thinking this means you can’t ever mess them up.
▪️Guys, being organized is not about being perfect.
▪️Being organized is about making systems work for you— knowing where things are, when you need them, and in spaces that make sense for you.
▪️As your routines and circumstances change, chance are your organized systems will need fine tuning or total overhauls and
THAT’S OKAY.
▪️You may try something and it doesn’t work and THAT’S OKAY too.
🌈 Tag an awesome teacher who shines so bright and needs to hear this message! Let’s encourage each other to try new things and get after it without fear of perfectionism!

Students move a magnet to let me know they’re in my class- it’s their first responsibility when they enter the room. I used a paint marker to add student numbers to them. Easy peasy.
Magnets are great because they’re:
• wipeable
• easy to replace
• less likely to break
• stay in place
How do you take attendance?

Did you know this is FREE in my shop, guys? And you can tweak the survey questions to make them your own! Orrrr leave them and get some really good information from your new parents right away with VERY little effort on your part.

Quite literally lit. 🔥
In my book, summertime is for fire pits and sunsets. How are you recharging your batteries? I want to make sure to squeeze in a last day at the beach, a trip for ice cream near my alma mater with the fam, and do you think I can swing over to Chicago too for a day?
What’s on your list to help recharge before school starts again?

Fun fact:
Several years ago I was in plans to form a charter school within my district with like minded colleagues and friends.
While it didn’t come to fruition, I did go through trainings, many meetings, and received approval to run a test year at my grade level. It never come to fruition, but I learned so much about different school models.
I was challenged to consider the values to build a school community upon.
Enter this book.
One of those colleagues, my team teacher and f r i e n d , introduced me to it.
If we want to foster success we need to focus more on character qualities like:
• perseverance
• curiosity
• conscientiousness
• optimism
• self- control
I’ll be the first to 🎉 cheer you on as you put together your classroom for the new school year, but I’m also here cheering you on as you prep to guide young minds while you have them. 👊🏼

Are the paper piles on your desk just really random stacks of uncategorized clutter? Say it ain’t so!
Here’s why my clear acrylic trays at my desk work:
• Helps me see what I have (pro tip: use when it makes sense because color coding systems work!)
• Assign a category for each level (i.e. to file, to copy, to do, ASAP. Clear that last one at the end of every day or each new morning.)
• Clear trays allow for laminated labels to peek through from the inside which looks much cleaner if you choose to use them.
• Mindset shift: Your goal isn’t to fill them, but to keep them nearly empty!
Do you use paper trays to stay organized at your desk? These exact ones are linked in my bio (affiliate link.)

Ten bucks you talk about following directions during the first month of school, but do you have a system in place to reinforce it all year long?
And is it fun?
And is it easy to incorporate into your day?
And could a substitute use it?
I LOVE puzzle books (no beach vaca is complete without a new one) and these activities stemmed from my obsession with them. Students must follow directions exactly to solve these puzzles which will-- tada-- reveal a mystery quote! Take it further and let your students write about that quote and reflect on it's meaning.
I have one of these for EVERY MONTH of school starting with August. Click the link to see this resource for yourself!
