Dog cognitive science has come a long way over the past two decades. Wagging tails, persuasive looks and the shape of ears yield all kinds of information about a dog’s intentions and emotional state. The way dogs develop human-like behavior has been the subject of many scientific studies.Research has shown that dogs have the same brain structures that produce emotions in humans, and there are several ways in which dogs demonstrate their love and affection. So let’s look at 10 proven ways that dogs show their love. #1. Your dog yawns with youif a dog yawns when you do - it’s actually a form of social bonding.Researchers at the University of Tokyo have shown that, just like humans, dogs yawn contagiously, but they're more sensitive to the yawns of their owners than those who they don't know.Since contagious yawning in humans is linked to empathy, some scientists believe this might be the case with canines too. #2. Your dog gazes into your eyes when you look at themDogs can’t talk with humans in a verbal fashion so they use many non-verbal ways of communicating. One of the ways in which dogs show their love is gazing directly into your eyes.According to a research published in the journal of Science, dogs develop strong emotional bonds with humans by staring into our eyes. This non-verbal way of communication increases level of social hormone called oxytocin in both dogs and their owners. #3. Your dog raises their eyebrowsWhen dogs stick out their tongue at the same time as they raise their eyebrows, they are trying hard to mimic your facial expressions in the best way they can. They won’t do this with other dogs. But they will with you.According to a research published in Scientific Reports journal, dogs produce significantly more facial movements when humans are paying attention to them than when they are being ignored. #4. Your dog cuddles up with you after you feed itThis is the surest way to know your dog loves you.Even though you feed them every day, your dog doesn’t just see you as a feeding machine. They want to cuddle with you after they eat because they want to show you that they love you for more than just their daily meal.Cuddling also releases endorphins that make them feel better. So, does your dog want to play alone, or cuddle up with you, after eating? #5. Your dog brings you its favorite toyDogs are possessive about their bones, toys and other chews. So when your dog jumps in your lap and brings you their chewed-up and worn-out favorite toy or bone, be glad!Because they are displaying two types of behavior that are rooted in their love for you.First, they are giving you an offering. Second, they believe that you will keep their most prized possession safe #6. Your dog lets you touch its headMany dogs don’t like being petted on the top of their head because they perceive it as a threat.Especially if you are towering over them as a human, they do not like being patted on the top of their skull. It is much better to get down on their level and scratch them under the chin or at the base of their tail.So if your dog lets you touch the top of their head, you are their special one. #7. Your dog gets into your laundry and carries your socks around in its mouthIf your dog sleeps on your clothes, it means it loves you. Your clothing has your scent on it and dogs always want to feel closer to you. #8. Your dog wags its tailYour dog will wag its tail to communicate with you.But it doesn’t always mean it is happy. While wagging its tail in the natural position may be a friendly greeting, be aware of other positions. If a dog gets nervous, it will wag its tail in a lower position. And if a dog wags its tail held high, it is curious or aroused by something. A slow or stiff tail means that it is about to get aggressive.your dog is definitely trying to tell you something when it is wagging its tail. The position of the tail varies by breed. The best thing is to do in this case is research the breed of dog you have. Then you will know much more about why they are wagging their tail. And what it means. #9. Your dog goes crazy when you get home lateStudies have shown that dogs’ reunion with their beloved owner has a significantly positive effect on them, increasing the level of social hormone oxytocin, and lowering the level of stress hormone cortisol. They are also probably wagging their tail in the upright position - as they are overexcited and curious as to what new treats you are bringing home to them. And they will reassure you that they love you too. Probably by licking your face. #10. Your dog follows you around even when you don’t need them to your dog will follow you around even when you want to be alone. If you have ever given your dog treats, they may follow you around thinking there are always treats on you. It’s called imprinting.

“Panic is a sudden desertion of us, and a going over to the enemy of our imagination,” said the 19th-century writer Christian Nestell Bovee. As everyone who has ever experienced a panic attack knows, there is nothing imaginary about the way you feel. I've tried to convince my husband on countless occasions, in the middle of an attack, that I was dying. Many people I know have driven to the emergency room convinced they were having a heart attack. The physiological symptoms are so acute and so real that you can’t believe that your mind is partly to blame. The word “anxiety” seems way too lame to attach to the sweat, racing heartbeat, and sheer terror of what you are feeling. At the point of my life in which I was most depressed and anxious, when my kids were preschoolers, I would carry a paper bag around with me in case I had a panic attack. It would help stabilize my breathing so I wouldn’t hyperventilate and pass out during their karate practice right as Mr. Joe was telling them to use their “black belt spirit” to control their thoughts. Since then, I've graduated to other techniques that prime my parasympathetic nervous system when I start to feel panic and help calm me down before I get to that painful and embarrassing place. Here are some of them.1. Breathe DeeplyEvery relaxation technique that mitigates the stress response and halts our “fight or flight or I’m-dying-get-the-heck-out-of-my-way” reaction is based in deep breathing.I find it miraculous how something as simple as slow abdominal breathing has the power to calm down our entire nervous system. One way it does this is by stimulating our vagus nerve — our BFF in the middle of panic — because it releases a variety of anti-stress enzymes and calming hormones such as acetylcholine, prolactin, vasopressin, and oxytocin. In another blog, I go over three basic approaches: coherent breathing, resistance breathing, and breath moving. But really, all you need to do is inhale to a count of six and exhale to a count of six, moving the breath from your chest to your diaphragm.2. Splash Water on Your FaceHave you ever noticed that when you splash cold water on your face, it changes your perspective — if only for a minute?Research shows that cold-water face immersion produces physiological changes by stimulating the parasympathetic system. It quickly rouses the vagus nerve (our calming buddy), bringing down our heart rate while activating our digestive and immune systems. Apparently, the area behind our eyeballs is an easy and powerful locus of stimulation for the vagus nerve.3. Take an Epsom Salts BathYour eyeballs aren’t the only things that benefit from the healing powers of water. If you have the time, immersing your entire body in an Epsom salts bath can possibly reverse your stress response.Epsom salts are a mineral compound containing magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen. When used in a warm bath, they allow magnesium to be easily absorbed into the skin, which promotes a feeling of calm and relaxation.According to a 2012 study in the journal Neuropharmacology, magnesium deficiencies induce anxiety, which is why the mineral is known as the original chill pill.4. Massage Your ScalpI wish I could afford a massage every time I felt anxious, because research shows it clearly shifts a person’s biochemistry.According to a study published in the International Journal of Neuroscience, massage therapy decreased cortisol levels by as much as 31 percent and increased serotonin by 28 percent, and dopamine by 31 percent.Scalp massages are particularly beneficial because they send blood circulation to the brain and reduce the muscle tension in the back of the head and neck. With practice and a few tips, you can learn how to give one to yourself. I use a little bit of lavender essential oil because it can be very calming. A study from Osaka Kyoiku University in Japan found that lavender oil reduced mental stress and increased alertness.5. ShakeI mentioned this technique in my blog 10 Instant Ways to Calm Yourself Down, which includes more ideas on how to slow panic. After animals escape from a predator, they don’t engage in an intellectual conversation with their peers about what it was like to almost be dinner for a family of five. No. They shake. As American pop star Taylor Swift sings in “Shake It Off,” moving our bodies in a primal fashion can simply be the best neurological exercise we have for loosening the noose of fear that often hangs around our necks, and for moving forward like a creature who refuses to be anyone’s dinner.Don’t know where to begin? Try this shaking meditation by meditation teacher Pragito Dove.6. PrayI have prayed my way through many a panic attack. Mostly I uttered the words, “Please, God, end this!”But you need not possess a deep religious faith to benefit from contemplation. Reciting a mantra over and over again, something as simple as the word “peace,” can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and calm you down. Most of the world’s religions use prayer beads as part of their meditative exercises. I find holding the rosary and moving the prayer beads as I say a Hail Mary over and over again — even if my mind is somewhere completely different — is one of the best activities I can do when I’m panicking. I even sleep with a rosary. It calms me.7. Do Rabbit PoseIdeally, it would be great to attend a yoga class where your breath gets shallow and the mind takes over, but that’s hard to do as a confident, cool mom who pretends to have her life together when you’ve got deadlines to meet and you need to pick your kids up in five minutes. If you have one minute and privacy, try Rabbit Pose, where you're sitting on your heels Japanese style with your knees and feet together. Reach back behind you and grab your heels with either hand, palms down.As you look at your stomach, lower your chin to your chest and curl your torso slowly until your forehead is touching your knees and the top of your head is touching the floor, lifting your hips into the air.Rabbit Pose relieves tension in the neck, shoulders, and back, where we carry most of our stress. It's especially therapeutic for depression and anxiety because it compresses the thyroid and parathyroid glands and moves blood to the brain.8. Listen to Binaural Beats or WavesSome of my friends swear by binaural beats, a technology that uses low-frequency tones and brainwave entrainment to influence mood and provide control over pain.A few recent studies show that the use of binaural beats, or audio therapy, can significantly reduce anxiety, at least during cataract surgery, and can even help symptoms of ADHD in children and adolescents. Personally, I just like to listen to ocean waves. If I close my eyes and imagine myself at the beach, concentrating only on the ebb and flow of the water, I can often stabilize my heart palpitations enough to go to a semi-happy place, or at least to not obsess so much about whatever is causing me panic.9. Warm Your HandsDid you know that whenever we get stressed, our hands get colder because blood is being fed to the areas of tension in our shoulders and hips in a fight-or-flight response?Warming our hands, then, reverses the stress response and triggers parasympathetic relaxation. A number of studies report that we can lower blood pressure with hand warming. I go for the obvious route — holding a hot cup of tea, sitting in a warm bath, etc.But you can also visualize activities that warm the hands — sitting in front of a hot fire, curling under the covers — and generate a relaxed response that way, too!10. Eat Dark ChocolateIf all these things seem like way too much work, there's one last technique that I think you’ll like: Simply eat lots of dark chocolate. Not the Hershey's bar that says “dark chocolate” but has much more sugar than cocoa — shoot for at least 85 percent cocoa or higher. Dark chocolate has one of the highest concentrations of magnesium in a food, with one square providing 327 milligrams, or 82 percent of your daily value. As I said earlier, magnesium is our calming friend. The only other foods that are as concentrated are squash and pumpkin seeds. Dark chocolate also contains large amounts of tryptophan, an amino acid that works as a precursor to serotonin, and theobromine, another mood-elevating compound. I find that eating a few squares of Lindt’s 90% Cocoa EXCELLENCE bar is much more enjoyable than breathing into a paper bag.

When you think of oats, you think of them as an ingredient in breakfast cereals and oatmeal, and maybe delicious oatmeal cookies. Over the past decade, oats have become extremely popular health food.Helps Control Weight: When it comes to losing weight, there are times we can always use a little help. So if you eat oatmeal, you might be able to control your weight. A study that was published in 2009 in an issue of Molecular Nutrition & Food Research gives evidence of this claim. The study concluded that a compound found in oatmeal known as β-glucan can reduce one’s appetite by increasing the hormone cholecystokinin. Plus oatmeal is full of fiber which is something that keeps you feeling fuller for longer. Not only that PUBMED says oatmeal has beta-glucan which is another thing that can make you feel fuller than normal. Which means no trips to the vending machine for snacks once you get to work. Not that you’re guilty of that. No, not you.Reduces Blood Pressure: Heart disease is one of the top causes of death in North America, so anytime we can lower our blood pressure, we will reduce the risk of developing heart disease. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that a high whole-grain diet is just as effective as taking anti-hypertensive medication to lower your blood pressure. Remember that Beta-glucan we talked about at the last point? Well, turns out studies published in PUBMED show that this can also help reduce the bad LDL cholesterol and regular cholesterol levels that can increase your risk of heart disease.Stabilizes Blood Sugar Levels: Everyone has experienced a sugar crash at some point in their life. With oatmeal, this won’t happen as often. Because of its high fiber content, the sugar is released more slowly into the bloodstream, which means that it has a low glycemic index. A study that was published in the Journal of Clinical Nutrition states that a low glycemic diet was associated with less insulin resistance and lowered the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Oats can possibly help with insulin sensitivity as well. When our bodies stop responding to insulin it can cause a whole bunch of health issues, and insulin resistance is extremely common. Any defence against insulin resistance will help your body out in many ways.Digestion: According to reviews that were published in a supplement issue of the British Journal of Nutrition, oats can play a vital role in improving satiety, digestive, and diet quality. When you feel fuller, you give your body time to digest the food quicker. So, many times people often overeat because they don’t have that full feeling.Colorectal Cancer: Britain and Netherland's researchers published evidence in BMJ that covered almost 2 million people and evaluated whether or not a high fiber diet is linked to a lower risk of colorectal cancer. They found that an extra 10 grams of fiber per day can reduce someone’s risk of developing colorectal cancer by 10%.Promotes Antioxidant Activity: As we’ve mentioned at the beginning, oatmeal is loaded with antioxidants called avenanthramides. These can inhibit inflammation and also boost the production of nitric oxide, which prevents hardening of the arteries. Antioxidants also protect your cells from free radicals. Free radicals increase the risk of cancer and heart disease. A study published in Nutrition and Cancer found that avenanthramides in oats actually decrease the spread of colon cancer cells. They’re An Easy Breakfast Option: All science aside, eating oats in the morning is just an easy way to be healthy. Oats contain lots of fiber and protein, which are two things many of us don’t get enough daily.

Visit us on pureremedyusa.com/breastfeedingYou’re doing a great job of protecting yourself and others from the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. including physical distancing and washing your hands frequently. But what’s the deal with breastfeeding during this time?Fortunately, protecting your little ones is similar to protecting yourself, even when it comes to your very little one who’s breastfeeding. Some encouraging news: Researchers haven’t yet found SARS-CoV-2 in breast milk, though research is limited. Two case studies — yes, just two, which is not enough to draw conclusions — from China report that the new coronavirus wasn’t found in the breast milk of either woman who became ill with COVID-19 late in their last trimester. Both women had healthy babies who didn’t have a coronavirus infection. The mothers avoided skin contact with their newborn babies and isolated themselves until they recovered.Additionally, while we are still learning about SARS-CoV-2, scientists do know its closest relative, SARS-CoV, very well. This coronavirus hasn’t been found in breast milk, either. But more medical studies are needed. Call your doctor if you’re unsure about whether to breastfeed your baby.-So with this in mind, what are the guidelines for breastfeeding? If you can breastfeed your baby, it’s important to keep it up. But there are special guidelines to protect your baby during this pandemic.Researchers know that SARS-CoV-2 is spread mainly through tiny droplets in the air when a person who’s carrying the virus sneezes, coughs, or talks. In fact, this virus likes to move into the nose before it even causes symptoms in some people.Unfortunately, you can pass the virus on before you get symptoms, and even if you never have symptoms but are carrying it.While we’ve already established that you likely can’t pass on the new coronavirus through your breast milk, you can still pass it through droplets from your mouth and nose or by touching your little one after coming in contact with your face or these droplets. So it’s especially important to follow these guidelines if you have COVID-19 symptoms or think you might have been exposed to the virus:-Wash your hands:You would wash your hands carefully before touching your baby in any case. Now, it’s vital to wash your hands frequently, especially before and after you pick up your baby or handle baby bottles and other baby items.-Wear a maskPerhaps you’re already used to wearing one when you go out, but in your own house?! If you’re breastfeeding, then yes. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 or have even an inkling that you may have it, wear a mask while you’re breastfeeding your baby. Wear it even if you don’t have symptoms. Also, wear a mask while you are holding, changing, or talking to your baby. This will likely be uncomfortable for you — and startle or distract your little one at first — but it can help prevent a coronavirus infection.-Disinfect surfacesClean and disinfect anything you’ve touched with an alcohol-based cleaner. This includes countertops, changing tables, bottles, and clothing. Also, clean surfaces that you haven’t touched that might have air droplets on them.Carefully clean and disinfect everything that might touch your baby. This virus can survive on some services for up to 48 to 72 hours!-Pump breast milkYou can also pump your breast milk and have your partner or a family member feed your baby. Don’t worry — this is temporary. Wash your hands and clean any area of skin the breast pump will touch.Ensure that the bottle is completely sterile by placing it in boiled water between feedings. Disinfect the breast milk parts carefully with boiled water or soap and water.-Keep baby formula on handYou don’t have to breastfeed if you feel you are ill or have symptoms of COVID-19. Keep baby formula and sterile baby bottles on hand ready to go, just in case

Visit us on pureremedyusa.com/healthy-parentingParenting plays a vital role in developing a child's cognitive and social skills that assist them in the latter part of their life. Parents become the primary socialization agency for them during infancy, which makes children imitate parents from an early age. They pick up on the language, learn their behavior patterns, and then impersonate them when they move on to other socialization agencies. There also have been debates about whether it's the nature of a child that affects their development, and it is the nurturing they experience. There has been an experiment and observation made where the children are in the two different living conditions. They were subject to separate parenting techniques that gave the opposite outcomes.A Minnesota Twin Family Study, conducted from 1979 to 1999, features a pair of brothers, Jack Yufe and Oskar Stohr. They were the first to join the research project. They were separated as babies and reconnected at the age of 21. They shared similarities that were a part of their genes and how they grew up affected. Yufe was raised as a Jewish in Trinidad, whereas Stohr grew up in Germany, where he joined the N**i movement as a teenager. It shows that the parent's environment brings up the child at an early age and sets the foundation for how they form their bonds in the future. If the child grows up in a secure and healthy environment, they will know the value of love, and they're worth it. When a priority is given to the emotional, mental, and linguistic development, the kid will develop a stable connection with the parents. The child will grow up to be confident during social interactions when the parents fulfill his emotional needs.Parenting Style – Positive ParentingNo one parenting formula fits every child. The techniques need to be modified for every child in a way that is suitable for them. Adaptation and changes are required to bring out the best in every child. Here are some tips that can help you improve your relationship with your child.1. Warm, loving interactionsChildren can pick up on the cold behavior and can get scared off easily. It can damage the relationship further as well. Try to treat each interaction by giving them a warm smile, an encouraging nod, or a comforting hug. It will bring your kids closer to you and make them understand there is always someone in their corner.2. Have boundaries, rules & consequencesChildren are entirely unaware of the things around them and how they function. They need a guide who teaches them about the societal norms and the consequences they might face when breaking those norms. Teach them about the rules and what you expect of them. It should be displayed in a way that doesn't make them live in fear from you. Instead, they should be aware of the disappointment that it might cause you.3. Listen and empathize with your childParents should communicate with the child when it comes to emotions and acknowledge their feelings. If children can develop their emotional capacity from an early age, it will help them to create strong relations in the future. This way, they will rely more on their parents for their emotional fulfillment than seeking it from strangers in the world.4. Problem SolvingAssist children in tackling their problems on their own and coming to a conclusion. The efficient way to do this is to lead by example. When facing an awkward situation, show them how to deal with it and how to react. It will teach them to be independent and handle the world on their own.Strengthening the Parent-Child RelationshipDeveloping a relationship with a child is critical, and it requires a lot of effort. Here are some tips to help you strengthen your bond with the children healthily.1. Tell your children you love themParents do love their children, but often an affirmation is required. Let your kid know how much you love them and not just with the actions. Tell them, "I love you," no matter how old they are. It is also a way to demonstrate to them what love feels like and what they deserve.2. Play togetherPlaying with the children not only brings them closer to you but also benefits in improving their skills. You can plan board games, role play, or creative activities that boost their imagination and expand their cognitive abilities.3. Be AvailableKeep a time separated from all the technological devices for just you and the children. It instills good communication habits between them both, and you can share quality time.4. Eat meals togetherSharing food is the most straightforward activity that requires no effort. Sit down with the children and keep a healthy discussion without any electronics at the table. Through these, children will learn to enjoy each other's company. To view the entire video or article go to pureremedyusa.com
