There are four centers to facilitate resea

rch: The Center for Enhancing Quality of Life in Chronic Illness: The Center for Reserach in Nursing Education; The Research in Palliative and End-of-Life Communication and Training Center; and the IU School of Nursing Champion Center for Cancer Control Research. Academic programs range from three undergraduate options, nine tracks in the master’s program, post-master’s options, a PhD in nursing science, a DNP, and continuing education opportunities.

This fall, 23 IU Bloomington students participating in the Aldrich Project—including 10 senior IU School of Nursing students and 13 undergraduate and graduate interprofessional students—are teaching the Second Step® social-emotional learning curriculum in Lawrence, Monroe, and Morgan counties.

Earlier this week, students joined faculty mentor Dr. Kim Decker at the Monroe County Recovery Summit, where they met State Senator Shelli Yoder and learned more about the importance of supporting children’s mental health and well-being.

How can community-led innovation reshape health professions education and healthcare systems?

Hossein Khalili, PhD, RN, FNAP, executive associate dean of clinical academic programs at the Indiana University School of Nursing, explored this question as an invited keynote speaker at the 5th Africa Interprofessional Education Network Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

Contributing to the conference subtheme, “Community-Led Innovation: From Grassroots to System Change,” Dr. Khalili’s keynote connected African-led innovation with emerging global priorities, including: interprofessional education and collaborative practice; patient, family, and community engagement; healthy aging and caregiving; workforce development; and interprofessional socialization and 'Community-accountable Interprofessional Identity.'

Drawing on his research and international work, he proposed a pathway for translating community knowledge into lasting change: listen, share power, build together, embed successful practices, and learn continuously.

Two Indiana University School of Nursing faculty members have been appointed to endowed positions that will advance health equity and strengthen the preparation of future nurses.

The IU Board of Trustees approved the appointments of Amy Knopf, PhD, RN, FAAN, as the Rose Cole Mays Professor in Health Equity, and Megan Stuffle, DNP, RN, as the Centennial Endowed Director in Nursing Education.

“These appointments recognize the outstanding contributions Dr. Knopf and Dr. Stuffle are making to nursing and the communities we serve,” said Dean Janet S. Carpenter, PhD, RN, FAAN. “Amy’s work to address health inequities and Megan’s leadership in nursing education reflect the breadth of our mission and the many ways our faculty are working to improve health."

This summer, Indianapolis welcomed thousands of aspiring healthcare professionals for the HOSA–Future Health Professionals International Leadership Conference. The conference gave students the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, explore health careers, and experience health professions education on campus.

Congratulations to Amy Hagedorn Wonder, PhD, RN, on being named a Fellow of the National League for Nursing Academy of Nursing Education!

Dr. Wonder is among 44 nursing educators selected for the Academy’s 20th class of Fellows in recognition of her commitment to advancing evidence-based practice in nursing. The new fellows will be inducted next month during the Honors Convocation at the NLN Education Summit in Washington, D.C.
