Looking forward to co op starting this week!!
First Up: The Younglings 9-11am at Lincoln Lane TOMORROW Monday Sep 9 for ages 6 and under (and their guardians). First one will probably be pretty laid back. 😊 The activity I planned was more complicated than I can pull off this week 😂 So I’ll probably rather bring a tub of duplos. 🙌
Parents and guardians, this meet up is especially for you! Get yourself something to sip & be in community with other parents of littles, well versed in neurodivergent minds. ❤️🙏

Based on my cast of characters here, which Shakespeare play do you think we’re starting today? 😃😃😃

At DATKids Academy today, the kids rescued a sick and injured raccoon. We found her while walking in the field. I was in the middle of explaining why it's important to stay away from wild animals when this little raccoon - she wasn't looking too hot - keeled right over. So we took her back with us. We placed her in a rabbit hutch with a blanket and water, and IACS picked her up shortly thereafter. The kids named her Snooter.
Big thanks to the Animal Control Officers who arrived quickly and were wonderful with both the raccoon and the extremely excited children. After they left, one of my kids told me he wants to be an ACO when he grows up so he can "dress like a cop and rescue animals all day."
As adults, I'm sure they'll encounter lots of situations where someone is in need. All any of us can do is keep ourselves safe and do our best to help. That is what we did today. Hope you feel better soon, Snooter.
Edited to add: feel like I should clarify that no children touched or held the raccoon. The kids *found* her, but the adults handled her, and we handled her as little as necessary. We handed her off to the professionals as soon as possible. Part of the lesson today was safety around wildlife.

Our wagon train is just taking off from Independence, Missouri and hitting the Oregon Trail! Eric, a carpenter from Ohio, was voted in as the leader. And successfully caulked the wagon to float across the first river crossing. 💪💪 history

It’s exam time here at the academy, and we are enjoying immensely this time to chat with the kids about what they’ve been learning this year!
Will never regret following Ms Charlotte Mason’s lead on interview style exams for children.
Here, one of our youngest students considers which poet we’ve studied this term is the author of the poem Ms Margie is reading aloud.

Hi, Everyone! As the Christmas season of giving ramps up, we have a unique opportunity for you to help provide some much needed resources at DatKids Academy! One big need we have is high quality books for our kids, both to encourage the enjoyment of reading and as reference materials for academic subjects. We are partnering with PaperPie (formerly Usborne Books & More) to conduct a book drive for the best books for our variety of age levels and are excited for the difference these will make for the students next semester!
Our goal is to raise around $500 to purchase a variety of different books, which will then be matched at 50% by PaperPie - allowing $750 to be used for purchasing books!
HOW YOU CAN HELP: There are really two ways you can get involved!
Choose an ornament or two from our giving tree below to “sponsor” the purchase of a specific book or book set! These are all books on our wishlist! Just comment below or send us a message on which ornament you’re choosing to sponsor!
