We had an amazing few days at the California Induction Conference last week. Shout out to the Center For Teacher Innovation & Riverside County Office of Education for organizing an exciting & well-run three-day event! We felt fires of inspiration IGNITE within us.
It was a treat meeting so many great mentors & new leaders. Thank you to all mentors, coaches, & program staff for the critical work you do supporting new teachers!
Looking forward to another great event next year!

5yr-attrition of new teachers was 50% prior to the advent of beginning teacher support programs. These job-embedded programs pair new teachers with mentors & promote individualized professional development, ultimately improving student instruction & reducing teacher attrition. As programs are locally funded, their sources & amounts widely vary. Most new teachers pay out of pocket to participate in these mandatory programs.
-AB2694 (Rubio) would provide needed funding ($3,500 per new teacher) to these programs across California & prohibit charging new teachers to participate.
The Assembly Appropriations Committee will take up AB2694 in tomorrow's (5/19/22) 9am hearing.

“Teachers need a greater seat at the table.” Couldn’t agree more, EdW.
There’s many strategies for combating burnout and reducing the heavy loads teachers must carry. We can’t expect them all to be available or for just one combination to work over any others.
Administrators giving their teachers greater voice and more freedom to act, have better and more agile just-in-time support.
Gotta keep those communication lines open and show trust that we are all working towards the same goals.

The pandemic has put teachers through the wringer. Administrators must think about staff well-being differently.

Vast numbers of initiatives & new programs have been greenlighted across California using 💵💰from the COVID-19 Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund.
In 3 years, the impact of those funds MUST be reported!!
