Dr. Dakotah Kirk is the newest addition to our science department. Dakotah holds a bachelor's degree in physics from Mississippi State University, a master's degree in physics from Auburn University, and completed his Ph.D. in condensed matter physics at Auburn University earlier this year! He is teaching AP Physics 1 and AP Physics C this year and is part of our residential life team. Welcome, Dakotah!

Last week, our college advising office held a "college night" for our seniors and their families. Mr. Hughes and Ms. Gilbert reviewed the year's expectations and explained the college admissions process, from applications to acceptance and beyond!

Grades 9-11 will each have their own college night next month. Families can check the calendar in mySprings or reach out to our college advising office with any questions.

Join us in welcoming our new Associate Director of College Advising Adrienne Gilbert! Adrienne brings more than 20 years of experience to her role. She previously worked in college admissions at schools like Rice University, as a high school college counselor at Whitefield Academy in Atlanta, and as a consultant for the Tier 1 college consulting firm Solomon Admissions. Adrienne obtained her bachelor's degree from Gettysburg College, where she played basketball, and will be coaching our girls varsity basketball team. Fun fact: she's also fluent in German! Willkommen, Adrienne!

Last week, our ninth graders enjoyed their annual overnight trip to the Alabama 4-H Center near Lay Lake in Columbiana. Students participated in fun activities and games, building community and forging friendships that will last a lifetime. Thanks to our student government members for their help on the trip!

Ellie Lynn Martin '28 was invited to the 2026 Patriot Games last week, held at the SPIRE Academy in Ohio. She was chosen as an All-American alternate and competed against high school athletes from all 50 states and U.S. territories. Congrats, Ellie!

Please welcome our newest math teacher, Cecilia Johnson! Cecilia brings 10 years of experience teaching secondary mathematics, holds a master's in secondary mathematics education from the University of Montevallo, and is a National Board Certified Teacher. This year, she will instruct our students in precalculus, advanced precalculus, and foundations. Cecilia also joins our ResLife team, and she and her family reside on campus. Welcome to Springs!

At today’s Town Meeting, we celebrated the Indian Springs School girls soccer team and their 2026 state championship! After winning the title this spring, the team received their championship rings today in front of the entire school community.

Congratulations to an incredible group of student-athletes and coaches on a championship season and a moment they’ll always remember. We’re so proud of the hard work, heart, and teamwork that made it possible!

And a special shoutout to our two graduated seniors, Simone Bermudez ’26 and Sherilyn Kau ’26, who couldn’t be with us today but will always be part of this championship team.

We've had a great opening week of school that included new student orientation and a fun-filled first day planned by our Commissioners of Citizenship, Majd Alqahtani '27 and Darwin Lu '27. A big thanks to all of our student government leaders for their hard work, and thanks to Mayor Xiuwen Hu '27 for setting the tone for the school year. Xiuwen encouraged students to practice bravery, noting that "the best moments of growth happen when you feel like you are being challenged, no matter how big or small."
