It is with profound sorrow and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and fellow instructor Dr. Mike Sanders, a cornerstone of Author Quest since its very inception in 2007.
Dr. Mike wasn't just a writing coach and teacher—he was a heartbeat of our writing camps, shaping young minds with a rare blend of wisdom, warmth, and wit that left an indelible mark on everyone he touched. Dr. Mike greeted young authors with a notebook in one hand, a mischievous twinkle in his eye, and a wonderful, disarming smile.
Mike transformed hundreds of hesitant writers into confident storytellers. He didn’t merely teach writing; he ignited imaginations. As a result, kids didn’t just learn from Dr. Mike—they felt seen by him. It was marvelous to see how Mike could spot the unspoken story in a child’s eyes and help them gently guide it to the page. Author Quest was his chosen family, and he leaves behind a chorus of voices forever changed by his belief that every child has a story worth telling. We’ll miss his contagious, dry sense of humor, his booming voice, and his infectious laughter. Rest easy, Dr. Mike—you taught us all how to begin again.
