ONE MORE VISITOR BEFORE STATE! Mrs. Katie Barton from NKU dropped in during SKORE on Thursday to give students some ideas on phrasing as well as how to maintain energy in their tone.

Visitor #2 as we prepare for state was Professor Isaac Brooks from Asbury University today! Professor Brooks gave us some awesome ideas for our phrasing and ways to be more expressive. He also has an extensive background in bluegrass music, and he showed guitar class how what they’ve learned can apply to bluegrass music. It was a blast having him!

Our pre state visitor extravaganza has begun! Our student teacher from last year, Mr. Renton, hung out in the choir room today and worked with 5th period on vowels for repertoire. He also shared some tales from his first year teaching!

We are officially STATEBOUND! I could not be more proud of these kiddos.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, Chorale students are doing a fundraiser called Buy-A-County where they sell the whole “state” to help us get to state! You can buy as few as one county or as many as 119 (I have already bought Knox County from all of them)! Each county is $1. See a Chorale student to donate!

We come if you with AMAZING NEWS.

Yesterday, SK’s auditioned ensemble Chorale traveled to Calvary Baptist Church to perform for KMEA’s District 6 choral assessment. I am so very, very proud to say that not only did we get the highest rating of Distinguished, but EVERY ADJUDICATOR scored us Distinguished!

I started at this school with this year’s senior class. They and I have seen this program grow from a singular 52-minute y’all-come-sing group in a day to one of the biggest extra curriculars at SK and the second-largest high school choir program in the region.

They’ve smiled, laughed, and joked through it all, and I am so proud that they got to bring home straight Distinguished.

Full disclosure: we are awaiting an official certificate from KMEA, but I couldn’t wait any longer to share this news with the public, so have an “artificially modified” version of last year’s certificate.
