This is my purpose.
When asked why I am running for School Board, residents often wonder what drives me. The answer lies, in part, in this image.

Independence has been shaped by the efforts of those who came before me, making it an exceptional place to grow up. Many individuals I knew during my childhood have returned to Independence, seeking a community where safety and outstanding public education are the norm for their own children. Witnessing our three children grow up in the same town where I was raised is a truly remarkable experience.

I am committed to working tirelessly for you, your children, your grandchildren, and the future generations of Independence residents. Your vote on November 7th would be greatly appreciated!

In the most recent Independence Today Magazine, I answered a few questions regarding my candidacy. I wanted to share my responses in case you missed the article!

1) If elected, what is one thing you want to accomplish while on the school board?

I would be honored to be the voice for our families in the district. I have three children in Independence Schools (5th grade, 2nd grade, and attending IPS preschool). Being a lifelong resident of Independence, as well as IPS/IMS/IHS alumni, I would like to generate a focused vision to restore the reputation for excellence in our schools.

2) There are two school levies on the ballot. How should the district address finances and current deficit spending pending the outcome of the vote?

In times of financial uncertainty, such as we are experiencing in the broader economy, a conservative financial approach is warranted. Greater importance is given to non-operational and philanthropic support provided by the community is of great importance. It is crucial for the future of our school district to not sustain budgetary deficits, but to chart a path forward that will restore financial viability for our schools.

3) How will you maintain a relationship and collaborate with the city?

Independence City Schools currently has a wonderful relationship with the city. Events such as our Mental Health and Wellness Day, Home Days Family Fun Zone, and upcoming Disability Awareness Day would not be possible without the city’s support. I would love to have the engagement of the mayor and council in being more present in our school facilities. As a school board member, I would like to increase the access for the community members to share their thoughts and input with school board members.

🌟 Beyond the Campaign 🌟
When I have a little free time, I believe it's essential to indulge in the things that bring joy to our lives. Let me share a bit about my passions and hobbies outside the campaign trail. 📚🏋️🎶

1. Reading: Reading is not just a pastime; it's a passion of mine. There's nothing quite like getting lost in the pages of a good book, discovering new worlds, and gaining fresh perspectives. 📖❤️

2. Staying Active: Staying active and healthy is a priority for me. I make sure to incorporate exercise into my daily routine, not only for physical well-being but for mental clarity too. 💪🏃

3. Tuba Enthusiast: Here's a surprise – I play the tuba! 🎶 It's a unique hobby that brings me a lot of happiness and allows me to express myself musically. 🎷🎵

4. Cherishing Family Moments: Most importantly, I cherish the moments spent with my incredible family. Whether it's creating lasting memories or simply enjoying each other's company, these moments are what truly matter. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦❤️

I share these personal aspects of my life because they remind me of the values that drive me to serve our community better. As your candidate for Independence School Board. I believe in the importance of a well-rounded, enriching experience for our students and families.

🌟 Professional Journey and Community Involvement 🌟
In my career as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), I've had the incredible privilege of working in diverse settings, including schools, home health, and hospitals. 🏫🏡🏥 Each of these experiences has enriched me both professionally and personally, and I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of others. 💬👥

But my commitment to our community extends beyond my work. I believe that active involvement is key to creating the best environment for our children. Currently, I proudly serve as the President of the IPs PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization), where I've had the honor of working alongside dedicated parents and educators to enhance the educational experience for our kids. 📚✏️

And that's not all! I've recently taken on the role of Popcorn Coordinator for the middle school, contributing to the fun and camaraderie of our school community. 🍿👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

I'm passionate about making a difference, whether it's in the therapy room, the classroom, or within our community. I'm excited to bring this commitment to the Independence School Board and work together to shape a brighter future for our schools. 🌅🏫

I'm thrilled to reintroduce myself and share a bit more about my life. Family is at the heart of everything I do. I'm happily married to my husband, Jim, and together we've been blessed with three children. Our oldest, Charlie, is 10 years old, followed by the spirited Scarlett, who is 7, and our youngest, the adorable Louis, who is 5. 🏡❤️

We're not just a human family; we have a furry family member too – our beloved dog named Oscar! 🐶🐾

My journey in education started right here in Independence. After graduating from Independence High School in 2003, I continued my education at the College of Wooster. During my time there, I had the incredible opportunity to spread my wings and travel to England to do my student teaching. 🌍✈️

That experience ignited my passion for education and helped me discover my calling in speech-language pathology. I was determined to make a difference in the lives of students, so I continued my education by attending graduate school in this field. 📚🎓
