We are incredibly excited to share that Sarah Steffens, Reading Interventionist at Elm Grove Elementary, has been named the 2027 Missouri Teacher of the Year! 🎉

Sarah received the news during a surprise assembly surrounded by Elm Grove students and staff — the perfect place to celebrate an educator who has dedicated her career to helping students grow, build confidence and believe in themselves.
Sarah's passion for literacy is personal, and she brings that passion to her work every day. She is a champion for struggling readers, an advocate for students and families, and a mentor and collaborator who makes those around her better.

God works in mysterious ways, and I truly believe that’s the only way to explain how Fort Osage was lucky enough to have this amazing woman as our leader. I’m so incredibly proud of Cindy and grateful for the way she is always striving to be better, do more, and continue growing.

Such a wonderful day at the Examiner’s Women of Distinction Luncheon! ❤️

Our very own Dr. Cindy Grant was honored as a 2026 Woman of Distinction and, in an incredible honor, was named the 2026 Woman of the Year! 🎉

It was especially meaningful to celebrate this recognition surrounded by so many community leaders who know just how deserving she is of this honor. We are incredibly proud, and perhaps a little extra grateful, that Dr. Grant is now leading Fort Osage Schools as our Superintendent.

Her leadership, dedication, and commitment to students, staff, and our community are already making a tremendous impact. We couldn’t be more honored to have her as part of the Fort Osage family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Woods today, and I couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead! There are so many positive things on the horizon for our students, families, and community.

Dr. Cindy Grant, Superintendent of Schools, is pleased to announce that Dr. Hayet Woods will serve as the Interim Principal at Fire Prairie Upper Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year.

Dr. Woods brings more than 30 years of educational experience and has served as a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, principal, and district leader in several Missouri school districts. Most recently, she has served as an assistant principal in the Independence School District while mentoring future school leaders and teaching graduate-level education courses.

“I am honored and excited to join the Fort Family as the interim principal of Fire Prairie Upper Elementary. While my time here is defined as an interim role, my commitment is to building strong, enduring partnerships with our students, staff, families, and community members that extend far beyond this school year. I look forward to working alongside our talented staff to honor the traditions of excellence that define the Fort Osage School District while fostering an environment where every student can thrive,“ said Dr. Woods.

We look forward to introducing Dr. Woods to Fire Prairie staff and families on August 4th. Staff are invited to a meet and greet from 3:30 -4:30 p.m. and families from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at Fire Prairie Upper Elementary.
