Coaching is a partnership. 🤝

”…because I know you are smart, creative, and capable.”

Dr. Marcia Reynolds shared this reminder during her recent ICF Live appearance, and we’re still thinking about it.

Because we know that at the heart of coaching is honoring the wisdom of the person in front of you.

How do YOU define a true coaching partnership?

When you know who you are and what you stand for, you’ll be able to show up to even the most challenging situations with confidence. Ask yourself: “Who do I want to be in this moment? How can I move in the direction of my values rather than away from them?”

The smartest people don’t just learn from those they admire—they learn from those they don’t. Growth comes from openness.

Your work is making a positive difference (for you, others, and/or the world).

How true is this statement for you as of today, on a scale of 0 (not at all) to 11 (off the charts!)?

Leading is quite natural for us humans. Not just those who others see as "natural leaders". All of us.

Think about it. Whether it's innovating, improving, beautifying, organizing, guiding, creating, supporting, collaborating, enrolling, instigating, planning, exploring, reframing, understanding, healing… you are leading if you're being responsible for something in your world.

But what I know is some (many) of you don't access or lean into your natural leadership in the ways you'd like. You're often expected to comply, make others comfortable, be "easy" and do things the usual way… and mask what's unique and powerful about you.

You're expected to do everything, make it happen, and not involve others in working through the complexity of the designing and planning and imagining. How are you supposed to do that when the world is changing around you?

Maybe you've gotten feedback along the way that your questions and ideas are too much, too different, or perhaps a bit uncomfortable for others when you step into your brand of leadership.

"Why can't you just do it the usual way?"
"Just tell us what to do instead of asking us to collaborate on it — we don't have time for that."
"What does creativity have to do with work?"
"That's not practical."
"We don't do things that way around here."

Any of that sound familiar?

And then you end up hesitating, holding yourself back from fully contributing your gifts, complying with the status quo, and perhaps even resenting the situation you're in.

That's not okay with me.

The world needs you and your unique leadership contributions. It needs you to be seeing what others can't see, offering what others can't offer, and generating something "better".

What if you could access the natural leadership within you more often, in ways that generate better and invite the same from others?

It starts with you. You are the key. You are the change you want to see.

It's not always easy, but it can be delightful :) And you're not alone in this. There are others out here doing this good work.

Join me and some fellow leaders to learn 3 surprising ways to lead naturally for better results.

Because it matters.

As we get older, we regret what we *didn't* do much more than what we did.

Over time, regrets of inaction easily outnumber regrets of action.

The lesson for 2023?

Start that business. Write that novel. Ask out that crush. Take your shot.
