In celebration of the 250th birthday of our nation & our home, the Pennsylvania Art Education Association, in partnership with Pennsylvania Creative Industries & First Lady, Lori Shapiro, invited K-12 students across the Commonwealth to submit original artwork that embody the theme: “Many Communities: One Commonwealth”. This theme encouraged students to explore their voice & community, asking, "What makes your hometown, neighborhood, or personal story meaningful?" Youth were encouraged to reflect on family & personal identity, local landmarks or places, prominent figures in the community, or cultural traditions, history, or everyday life. Ms. Shuck was proud to have 12 students choose to participate in this meaningful collaboration. Seen here are their individual artworks, all of which were included in the mural, which can also be viewed on the online gallery at https://padlet.com/paarted/pa-250-many-communities-one-commonwealth-e940l2kfozletupv

In case you are having a hard time finding our 12 WA pieces among the 180 that make up the collage, I have close-up images here as well!

A message from the organization:
"The teachers and students of your school should feel honored as only the top 50% of the entries submitted from across the USA are invited to be published! Publishing your accepted students' work creates a record of what is important to today's youth. Without this publication, the entries that reflect the unique creativity and talent of these artists would be lost forever."
