In light of the recent article published by the Imperial Valley Press, we would like to thank Arturo for taking the time write about our academy. We would also like to clarify and elaborate a little more about the beginnings of the Imperial Valley Mariachi Academy. We would like to highlight that Ms. Jennifer Wake is not only a co-founder of the school, but also one of the directors, not an assistant director as was incorrectly stated in the aforementioned article. Both herself and Carlos Uribe formulated the idea for the school. We will include a brief statement about the idea behind the school.
The Imperial Valley Mariachi Academy was born out of a partnership between two passionate mariachi musicians who sought to bring formal mariachi education to a new community. Jennifer Wake, a native of the Imperial Valley who left for 10 years to Los Angeles in search of education and opportunities to strengthen her knowledge of mariachi music and the culture that surrounds it, and Carlos Uribe, a 4th generation mariachi musician with roots in Guadalajara, Jalisco seeking to foster and grow the love for mariachi music in a new place. Together, they have formulated and conceived the idea for the first ever school of mariachi in the Imperial Valley. Their hopes are to build an interest and desire to learn and play mariachi music for many generations to come.
