Imagine a high school that has mastered the art of arts education. It's Idyllwild Arts Academy, a close-knit, working community of students and teachers whose passion for the arts is balanced by a dedication to learning. Idyllwild offers a disciplined college preparatory program for grades 9-12 and post-graduates-along with world-class training in creative writing, dance, film & video, interdisciplinary arts, music, theatre, and visual art. The Idyllwild Arts Summer Program has, for more than 60 years, been in the business of broadening perspectives, deepening insights and generally changing lives for the better through intensive arts education. The Idyllwild Arts Summer Program began in the summer of 1950. Our visionary founders, Max & Beatrice Krone, believed that the arts could engage the cultures of the world in an open dialogue about how deeply we're connected, regardless of language, customs or personal beliefs. Music, art, and dance spoke to the soul where no words were necessary. The Krones invited artists of the highest caliber such as Meredith Willson, Ataloa, Harry Sternberg, Pete Seeger, Ansel Adams, Minor White, Marais & Miranda, Merce Cunningham & Bella Lewitzky, among many others. These artists and teachers were at the core of a program that not only enriched the lives of adults but extended the outreach to students of all ages from every walk of life. Each year, more than 1800 students of all ages and abilities are inspired by dedicated and imaginative artist-teachers for whom the process of changing lives is the expectation rather than the exception. The Summer Program is an invigorating time of intense activity and genuine creativity packed into an eight-week season that transforms lives and motivates participants to pursue their dreams.

What happens when the entire Idyllwild Arts community gets together in one room? 🌲

Every Wednesday, students and faculty gather in William M. Lowman Concert Hall for , a weekly tradition filled with performances, announcements, games, celebrations, and a look at what’s happening across campus. It’s one of the few times each week when every major, grade, dorm, and department comes together in the same space, giving us the chance to celebrate each other’s work and stay connected as a community.

And before we head back out into the week, we leave with the same reminder: Remember who you are and what you stand for. ❤️

Congratulations are in order to Idyllwild Arts alum Sho Ikushima (Dance ’04) who recently took on the prestigious role as Supervising Choreographer for the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. 🌏 Held every four years, the Asian Games are the largest multi-sport event in Asia, bringing together athletes from across the continent. Leading choreography for a ceremony of this scale is a remarkable professional achievement, involving a large cast and an international stage. The September 19 ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Emperor and Empress of Japan, along with representatives from the IOC and OCA. Congratulations, Sho! We’re incredibly proud to see your artistry represented on such a global stage. ❤️

New voices, new stories, and a first step onto the Idyllwild Arts stage. 🎭✨

Our annual New Voices Showcase welcomed the newest members of the Dramatic Arts Department as they shared their talents through song and storytelling. Each student was introduced by their Theatre Buddy, a returning Dramatic Arts student, continuing a tradition that connects new artists with the community they’re now a part of. ✨ Idyllwild Arts takes the stage in Hong Kong! This summer, the Hong Kong Professional Vocalists Association brought The Wizard of Oz to the East Kowloon Cultural Centre, bringing together more than 50 young performers for a full-scale production built in just two weeks.

The production also brought together members of the Idyllwild Arts community, including Dance & Musical Theatre faculty Jonathan Sharp, who traveled to Hong Kong to direct, and Idyllwild Arts alumnus Cooper Dai (Visual Arts ’13), who served as production consultant.

In just 14 days, the young cast went from their first read-through to performing three shows on a professional stage, an incredible testament to the creativity and mentorship behind the production. 🎭✨

Our seniors recently welcomed architect and designer Malek Alqadi to College Composition! ✏️✨

As students began developing their college application personal statements, Malek shared his journey from high school to Parsons and into a career in architecture and design. His work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Wallpaper, Dwell, and more. 🏛️ The conversation encouraged students to reflect on their own paths, the experiences and values that have shaped them, and how those stories can help guide what comes next. 💭
