Imagine a high school that has mastered the art of arts education. It's Idyllwild Arts Academy, a close-knit, working community of students and teachers whose passion for the arts is balanced by a dedication to learning. Idyllwild offers a disciplined college preparatory program for grades 9-12 and post-graduates-along with world-class training in creative writing, dance, film & video, interdiscip

linary arts, music, theatre, and visual art. The Idyllwild Arts Summer Program has, for more than 60 years, been in the business of broadening perspectives, deepening insights and generally changing lives for the better through intensive arts education. The Idyllwild Arts Summer Program began in the summer of 1950. Our visionary founders, Max & Beatrice Krone, believed that the arts could engage the cultures of the world in an open dialogue about how deeply we're connected, regardless of language, customs or personal beliefs. Music, art, and dance spoke to the soul where no words were necessary. The Krones invited artists of the highest caliber such as Meredith Willson, Ataloa, Harry Sternberg, Pete Seeger, Ansel Adams, Minor White, Marais & Miranda, Merce Cunningham & Bella Lewitzky, among many others. These artists and teachers were at the core of a program that not only enriched the lives of adults but extended the outreach to students of all ages from every walk of life. Each year, more than 1800 students of all ages and abilities are inspired by dedicated and imaginative artist-teachers for whom the process of changing lives is the expectation rather than the exception. The Summer Program is an invigorating time of intense activity and genuine creativity packed into an eight-week season that transforms lives and motivates participants to pursue their dreams.

The countdown is officially ON! 🌲✨ Our Prefects have arrived on campus, and with more students making their way up the mountain, it’s starting to feel like the school year again! 🎒🎨 Prefects are getting ready to welcome everyone back, help new and returning students settle in, and make campus feel like home from the moment they arrive. As student leaders, they play an important role in building connections, creating a sense of belonging, and helping our community start the year strong.

Campus is coming back to life, and we can’t wait to have everyone here. ❤️

One chapter closes, and another is about to begin. 🫶🌲 Last spring, we watched the Class of 2026 cross the commencement stage, marking the end of one extraordinary chapter at Idyllwild Arts. Now, just a few months later, we’re standing at the beginning of another. Soon, our mountain campus will welcome returning students back home and new students for the very first time. New friendships will form, new work will take shape, and a new class will begin making Idyllwild Arts their own.

As we say one final goodbye to the 25/26 school year, we’re looking ahead with just as much excitement to everything the 26/27 school year will bring. ✨

For young writers who are curious about just how far their words can take them. ✍️📖 At Idyllwild Arts, Creative Writing students experiment across genres, take creative risks, and strengthen a voice that is distinctly their own. Through workshops, close reading, and thoughtful revision, they develop their craft alongside other young artists who are equally interested in storytelling. Their work reaches beyond the classroom through readings, performances, and publications, with opportunities to share what they’ve created and discover where their writing can go next. If writing is already part of who you are, imagine what you could do with it here. 🌲✨

Idyllwild Arts alumna Scarlett Grace McCarthy (Creative Writing) recently celebrated the Off-Broadway premiere of her new play, The Betrothed, at WP Theater in New York! 🎭✨ Set in the 19th century, The Betrothed is an absurdist comedy exploring love, ambition, and social expectation through a sapphic and satirical lens. Performed entirely by female actors, the play reimagines the classic marriage plot as its characters navigate broken engagements, romantic entanglements, and the expectations placed upon them. Congratulations to Scarlett and the entire creative team on an incredible Off-Broadway run! ❤️ Tap the link to learn more about our distinguished alumni! https://bit.ly/4xUkONt

Congratulations to Idyllwild Arts student Zoe Campbell () on winning the Stanford Online High School Poetry Contest! ✍️✨

Zoe’s winning poem was inspired by the prompt, “Everybody remembers the fire differently,” and explores the deeply different ways we experience, remember, and move through trauma and grief. For Zoe, who discovered poetry in her preteens through a love of singer-songwriter music, the recognition was especially meaningful. “It meant a lot to me that my observations about my reality, that was so shaped by unique experiences, held meaning for the judges and for my classmates.”

We’re proud to see Zoe’s deeply personal work recognized and celebrated. ❤️
