I hope everyone’s summer has gotten off to a great start! Hard to believe Independence Day is just around the corner! 🇺🇸
We are just wrapping up the second quarter, so I wanted to send out a summary from our board meetings. As always - nothing beats attending our meetings live or watching online, but hopefully this brief summary gives you an overview of what the board has been working on.
April 🌧️
- routine and consent agenda approval (quick refresher - this happens every meeting and is the board going through routine items - facilities/maintanence, approval of the last meetings’ minutes, financial reports, etc - then we approve everything before moving on to new business)
- Bus barn underground storage tank repairs and a discussion on replacement. There was no vote to replace the tank during the April meeting, but there was a vote to complete necessary repairs in order to maintain inspection approval. However, in the near future, there is a strong likelihood that the board will have vote on replacement options.
- approval of consideration for the sale of the Indian Trails building (the property on 6th st)
- renewal if existing services
May 🌷
- routine and consent agenda approval
- approval of our summer school teachers
- renewal of ParentSquare as a communication tool (please be sure you have the app update downloaded before the start of the school year!)
- approval of the ‘27/‘28 school calendar
- approval of the purchase agreeement of Eastlawn to Tri-Fold Ministries
- approval of the closure of Oaklawn for instructional purposes
- approval of a one time sign on bonus for new bus drivers - WE NEED DRIVERS!! 🚌
- approval for solicitation of our milk/dairy bid
- approval of Chromebook purchases
- approval of the ‘26/‘27 student handbooks: one major change is the update to the student athlete academic eligibility requirements which now aligns with the IHSAA academic requirements
June 😎
- routine and consent agenda approval, including a couple specific facilities requests (chiller maintenance and door repairs) (Shout out to Denny for all he does to keep our schools operational! 🛠️ ❤️)
- approval of the budget calendar (please note this wasn’t the approval of the budget, but instead was approval of the calendar on which we are required to submit information to the state and/or publish publicly)
- MOU with Delphi, renewal approval
- LOTS of cafeteria/food service approvals in order to gear up for the coming school year (Thank you to Jen and her crew for all their diligence in keeping our cafeterias running smoothly and efficiently! 🍽️ ❤️)
- ELA and Spanish curriculum approval
- Staff related approvals (26/27 pay scale, handbook, 26/27 raises)
A couple other quick reminders about board meetings:
- every couple of months you will see our agendas contain “read policies”. The policies are facilitated to us by NEOLA. Neola is an independent provider of policy service, focusing our efforts on the needs and requirements of the school corporations. These policies are often minor changes (ex. changing “a” to “the”), but can also be brand new (ex. new cell ban). In any case NEOLA policies are mandated to us by the state. We are required to read through these a certain number of times before final approval.
- Regular board meetings are the third Tuesday each month at 7pm
- Working sessions are the week before our regularly scheduled board meetings
- Both types meetings at open to the public to attend
The second quarter is always a busy one as the board is trying to finish out the current school year while also setting the stage for new one to start.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!! ☀️ Have a safe !! ❤️🤍💙
