🔢✨ **Math Learners & Leaders in Action!** 🎒💡

Our 3rd graders at Temple View Elementary are kicking off the school year strong! They created their own **math bead strings**—a hands-on STEM tool used to master addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Once they nailed the process, these Grizz Cubs stepped up as true leaders by walking down the hallway to teach our 1st and 2nd graders how to make their own! 🧠👏

Building hands-on STEM skills, mastering math concepts, and leading by example—we are counting on this being a truly great year! 💙🐻

Join us for an evening of games, fun, and community at the Temple View Elementary Fall Carnival!
A huge thank you to our amazing PTO for sponsoring this FREE event for our families! Enjoy ring toss, face painting, 9-square, a cake walk, a paleontologist dig, and more. Food trucks will also be available for food purchases.

What a fantastic first day at Temple View Elementary! 🎒✨
Our hallways were buzzing with excitement, big smiles, and ready-to-learn energy. From meeting new teachers to catching up with old friends on the playground, today set the tone for what is going to be an absolutely amazing school year.
A huge thank you to our incredible teachers, staff, and families for helping our students kick things off on the right foot. Rest up tonight, Grizz Cubs—we can't wait to see you back tomorrow for Day 2! 🐾📚

Ask a 3rd grader here about their favorite lesson and you might get an unexpected answer: Vikings!

Our students dig into Norse history, geography, and mythology as part of their reading curriculum. They trace Scandinavia on the map, learn how longships were built, and read the stories of Erik the Red and Leif Eriksson.

It's history, geography, and storytelling all wrapped into one lesson.

Paper airplanes are a science lesson in disguise.

What happens when an airplane flies? Four forces are at work: thrust, drag, lift, and weight. Thrust pushes the plane forward. Air resistance pushes back and slows it down. Lift keeps it airborne. Weight pulls it toward the ground. Understanding how those forces interact is the foundation of aerospace engineering.

Now comes the design challenge! 3rd gradestudents were tasked with building a paper airplane that could travel as far as possible, and the variables were all theirs to control. Wing width affects how much the plane fights air resistance. Weight distribution determines whether the nose cuts through the air cleanly or tips downward.

What makes Temple View Elementary special? We're glad you asked!

We're Idaho's first STEM-designated elementary school, which means hands-on, project-based learning is woven into every single school day. We also have a science lab funded by Idaho National Laboratory, a student drama club, Marzano High Reliability Schools Levels 1-3 Certification, and a small school community where every child is seen and known.

Understanding moon phases and constellations is much easier to feel than to read about in a textbook. So instead of reading about it, Temple View students experience it firsthand.

Students step into a darkened room with no windows, holding a ball on a popsicle stick. A single bright light source sits at the center of the room. Each student becomes the Earth, their ball becomes the Moon, and as they slowly turn, they watch how the light and shadow shift around them, bringing the concept of night sky observation to life in a way that a diagram on a page simply cannot replicate.

This is how constellations actually work. The stars we see depend entirely on where we are standing on Earth and the angle at which we are facing the sky. By physically moving through that experience themselves, students are internalizing a concept that connects astronomy, earth science, and our place in the universe.
