We are not talking about students with disabilities or medical issues, we're not talking about an occasional accident, and it's more common than you realize. If you have more than one student who needs this support, then the instructional time lost increases as the teacher tends to each student.

How does your district address potty training? With the push for public schools to be "more marketable" in the face of "school choice" tax credits and reduced funding, do think districts will begin to address the issue or will it continue to grow?

Who's pumped for our Vector Training this year? 😆

To be fair, after seeing the number of hours required last year, our admins were able to get some time approved for staff to complete the training during in-service and professional development days. The district also said they were reviewing the list to determine which trainings are truly required and which ones could be removed.

Here's hoping the list is a little shorter this year! 🤞

I reached out to my high school chemistry teacher a couple of years ago to tell him how much one small moment has stuck with me as I've moved through my life.

I was getting ready to leave for a choir festival when he came up to me with my chemistry test to show me my score. I don’t remember the score, but I remember him telling me that he knew I could do it, that he was proud of me, and that I should be proud of myself. I remember feeling awkward and uncomfortable, and brushing it off as teenagers do. Ugh, whatever.

I imagine he was always making encouraging comments. Anyone who knows me now knows how well I take encouraging or praising comments… with a hefty side of suspicion. Honestly, that’s an improvement from high school. 😂 But that moment at the music room entrance has stayed with me. I wanted him to know that.

It was such a small thing, but it meant something: someone saw me, believed in me, and said it out loud. Years later, I still carry that with me. The little things we say to students can stick with them in ways we may never realize.

Educators are important and valuable. Your impact is lasting and widespread.

You make a difference.

Jess
