Smart Starts

Smart Starts We are an all inclusive "full service" center-infants, special needs/autism, pre-k, toddler, school-age kids. Meals/snacks provided. ICCP accepted.

My (AMY) story. I have always loved to be with children. I grew up babysitting for all sorts of families. My biggest dream was to live in Maine and nanny for a family. I wanted to have a HUGE family when I "grew up and got married". It all sort of fell into place after i was married. I had a little daughter a couple years after we had been married, but no "nannying" in Maine. Although that did not

pan out like i would have LOVED to, I still get to do it EVERYDAY here in Lil' ol' Idaho! When my oldest daughter was a year and a half, a friend of ours needed someone to care for their little fella while they worked. She asked me, and i said "Heck YES!!". So it happened. I was caring for him, and man was he a bit a difficult. We later learned that he had some hearing impairment, speech delays, and Autism. I was caring for him throughout AAALLLLL of the testing. This family felt safe with us and referred so many people to us that i had to get licensed by the City of I.F. for their "daycare regulations". I went from helping a friend out to have 5 and 6 children at at time. Then, all of these families were happy with our services and our caring background, that they referred us to more families! (I sure have met some doozies, but some real awesome people too.) All of this turned into an UPGRADE of city licensing. It was amazing. We offered preschool and fun summer activities. We all just had fun. In December of 2014, i was ill, and i then had the help of some amazing co-workers to help get me through! We had a visitor from the City's "Code Enforcement" officer because we had sent a staff member to get their CCWC for while i was away for 6 weeks. The city then informed me that i could not have staff working in my home where my center was at the time! So, our options were to close down (not an option), cut some pretty awesome families and tell my staff to find other jobs (not an option either), or to find a building that would hold ALL that we OFFER, but not expensive or a "money pit" place and it had to be close to my home. That was the option we took. We found a building, it was really inexpensive for rent, and it was AROUND the BLOCK from my home. We began moving things and painting and carpet cleaning and all the extra work it takes to make a place of business and safe for children. I think we did a pretty good job for the time and money we had. It was HOME away from HOME. Well, We were at that location for about 6 months and the roof started leaking. The landlord was notified A LOT about this. The holes never got fixed in a timely manner so they spread even more and some mornings we came in, we had puddles inside! Then came the mildew smell and mold everywhere. We cleaned it as best as we could and just continued going on our way. One day, about 18 months after we moved into the building, i was given an offer i couldn't refuse! it was for a bigger building. I was going to still run BOTH centers, but have the smaller one for just preschool and after hours care. This worked for about 3 weeks, until it rained AGAIN, and the ceiling started to fall in on the play areas where children are at. LUCKILY though, nothing fell on a child, but i made a fast and necessary call to pack up all the stuff left at the first center, and move it as fast as we could to the newer and BIGGER center where we have lots of room to learn and grow! Now, my team and I are professionals that strive daily to make sure we are giving the very best care to you children. We love them. We treat them like the special little friends they are. My staff and i look forward to seeing our friends on a regular basis!! We also love to have NEW friends! Its always a different kind of journey when you are with our Smart Starts Family!!
