Dear Parents,

Twas the second day of classes
and all through the school
Each pupil was learning
and growing more cool!

It was a fantastic day at Discovery! The last bus was only a little late and all of the students made it off and to their classrooms on time! Little improvements will continue.

Lunch was SO much better. Kids had time to eat. Seating was plentiful and we made it though lunch lines and out to the playground efficiently.

Thank you for entrusting us with your children, they are AWESOME!

Parents,

First of all I want to say how impressed I am with your students! We had an opening assembly today to welcome everyone back to school and their behavior overall was outstanding! I am so impressed.

Overall feedback from students today was that they had a great day. There were some hiccups and I will address those, but overall it was a fantastic start to the school year for Discovery Elementary.

First, we had a very late bus today. Unfortunately it arrived after the bell rang. I and another teacher were there to greet the students and all of them made it to class quickly (And NONE of those students were marked as late). Transportation is still working out a few things and we are hopeful that our buses arrive on time from here on out.

Second, there was a very bad backup at the lunch line and in the cafeteria for tables. This mistake is all on me. I made a new schedule over the summer and what I planned was a train wreck. There were at least 5 adults assisting students in finding seats but I am sure there were upset students. Because of the back up there were several students who probably reported to you that their recess was cut short. I apologize for this.

After school we met as a faculty team and adjusted the entire master schedule to accommodate for more time between classes entering the cafeteria and allowing us to provide a less hurried lunch hour going forward.

I will continue to monitor and review our cafeteria procedures in order to make any further adjustments as needed.

I want to let you all know that our AMAZING PE and music paras have taken on new jobs this year. We are lucky enough to have them continue to work with our students at Discovery however, we are looking to hire a new PE and a new Music para for this year. Currently the music para is posted.

Reminder Back-to-school night is tomorrow, Thursday, August 27th from 5-7pm open house style. Come meet your teacher and drop off your school supplies.

PowerSchool parent accounts have been created for all new students. To log into PowerSchool you will go to the district website www.d93schools.org --> Parents --> PowerSchool, your username will be your email and your temporary password is District93 you will then be asked to create your own password.

**If you already have a parent PowerSchool account and have a new kindergarten student, your student should be on your account with your other students.**

Parents if you have not applied for free or reduced lunch please do so. You can do this online at https://childnutrition.d93schools.org/application or there are paper forms in the office. We ask that you apply whether you think you will qualify or not.
Elementary lunch prices for the 26-27 school year are as follows:
Breakfast: full price $2.45 - reduced price $0.30 - Adult $3.45
Lunch: full price $3.45 - reduced price $0.40 - Adult $5.45
