Is your child ready for kindergarten? One of the best things you can do to help prepare your child is to read to them every day!

Some skills that will help your child be successful in kindergarten include:

✔Recognize letters
✔Recognize numbers 1 to 10
✔Count from 1 to 10
✔ Recognize colors like black, white, yellow, green, red, blue, orange, and purple
✔ Recognize shapes like triangle, circle, square, hexagon, rectangle
✔ Write his/her name

Pointers for scissors skills

A lot of parents are nervous to teach their child how to use scissors, but it’s a crucial school readiness skill. Here's a few tips to help.

✂️Allow your child to hold the scissors with both hands, each hand holding one loop. You can hold the paper for them.

✂️As they begin to cut the paper, repeat the chant— “Open, slide, close. Open, slide, close.”

✂️As they practice cutting with only one hand, you may see them put their thumb on the bottom loop of the scissors. This is because that’s what they’re used to doing that when holding a pencil. Your child will eventually figure out the correct way to cut as their hands get stronger.

✂️Cutting playdough and straws can help them practice their scissor skills without the frustration wiggling paper can cause.
