St. John the Evangelist School, Long Green Valley

St. John the Evangelist School, Long Green Valley Starting in PK3 - 8th grade, we are preparing students to be the faith-filled leaders of tomorrow John the Evangelist Parish community.

History:

In 1858, Saint John the Evangelist Catholic School started humbly in a small frame building located in Hydes, Maryland. In 1947, a one-room school house which was run by the School Sisters of Notre Dame was opened on the current site in what is now the Knights of Columbus Building. The original brick school house was constructed in 1950 with additions coming in 1957 and 1991. Throughout

that time, the school thrived and became a valued part of the St. In the early 1990s, preschool was added to the kindergarten to eighth-grade program. Extended daycare was added shortly thereafter providing the community with a complete educational opportunity. The current school facilities consist of the main brick school building, the Learning Cottage that houses the preschool, and the Music House that is used for music instruction and aftercare. The school commenced operation as an Archdiocesan Collaborative School within the 2011-2012 academic year with a name change to St. John the Evangelist School, Long Green Valley. This model combines the benefits of local centralized governance with the added benefit of local community involvement while maintaining a sense of ownership and decision-making at the local level. The deliberative board assists in leadership and makes key decisions on budget, development, and strategic planning. The collaboration of the Canonical Representative, Principal, and School Board drives the advancement of the school. The school currently has a student enrollment of 226 with an average of 21 students per class. Because of the school’s physical size, the school will only have one of each grade with class sizes maxing out at 25. This allows for a unique opportunity to individualize instruction because of the 11:1 teacher-to-student ratio, innovative teaching, and classroom technology that incorporates a blended learning model.

⚽Our St. John Eagles hit the field this weekend for the very first games of our new 1st and 2nd grade soccer teams!

Our 2nd graders kicked off the season with a WIN 🏆, and our 1st graders did an amazing job in their first game! We are so proud of all of our young Eagles for their hard work, teamwork, and effort on the field.

What a special Friday at St. John! 💙🦅💜

We started our morning by celebrating the induction of our newest National Junior Honor Society members! Our inductees and their families enjoyed muffins together following the ceremony. A big thank you to all of the parents and family members who joined us to celebrate this special accomplishment!

We are so proud of our newest NJHS members and their commitment to scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. Congratulations, Eagles! 🦅

Our school community also came together to celebrate our first Mass of the school year, making it a beautiful start to another faith-filled year at SJE. 🙏✝️

And, of course, we couldn’t forget our first Ravens Purple Friday of the year! 🏈 Our Eagles were decked out in purple and ready to cheer on Baltimore!
