Several years ago, Leslie 4-H participated in a service project in Georgetown during 4-H Teen Conference where we painted storm drains. We decided to bring that idea back to Leslie County, and during COVID, our Teen Council painted two storm drains right here in our community!

Fast forward to June of this year, when our Teen Conference service project once again focused on pollution and storm drains. We had wanted to refresh our local drains for a while, but finding the time was a challenge. This past week, we made it our mission to repaint them before the Mary Breckinridge Festival began and we made it happen!

A big THANK YOU to our high school for busing Teen Council members downtown, our local bank, city hall and library for helping and loaning us supplies, and Subway for keeping our teens refreshed with cold water! We’re so thankful for the community support and our teens’ hard work.

We hope everyone noticed the freshly painted drains during the festival! Beyond adding a little color to town, they serve as an important reminder: what goes into our storm drains can end up in our rivers. Please be mindful of litter, dumping, and pollution, we all have a part in keeping our community and waterways clean!

Wear your 4-H GREEN and show your 4-H pride! Snap a picture in green and share it with us. We want to see our community covered in 4-H green!

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6 — TRY IT TUESDAY
4-H is all about learning by doing! Try something NEW today—a new skill, activity, recipe, project, or experience.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7 — INNOVATION DAY
Imagine. Create. Innovate! Celebrate the creativity and problem-solving skills 4-H helps youth develop through STEM, entrepreneurship, hands-on learning, and more.
