HAPPY JUNETEENTH DAY!
Juneteenth is the national celebration of the day that commemorates when in Texas were declared “free,” some two years after the was ordered by Abraham Lincoln, Jan 1st, 1863.

Why Texas? Well, TX was the state furthest west that had also joined the ranks of 10 other states to separate or secede from the . As a form of economic, social, and political penalty and punishment, Lincoln declared the enslaved African Americans in those 11 states free—Texas delivered the news two-years later, June 19th,1865.

Juneteenth nationally celebrated freedom, and it also emphasized education and self-improvement. In terms of being a nationally honored and celebrated day, there’s a resurgence happening. Education and self-improvement are still emphasized.

Our Founder, Ms. Zakiyyah Ali, gave the keynote address at the 26th Annual Juneteenth and Kingfest Celebration and was honored with a host of other honorees. She says Juneteenth is the “truer Independence Day in America because all of America’s people were free by 1865, in terms of legal human status.”

Is Juneteenth included in your pedagogical practices in your school / school district? Celebrate Juneteenth! ❤️☀️🖤☀️💚

It happened 5-years ago.
Flint.
Contaminated water.
Black Families.
Poor Families.
It’s nobody’s fault that Flint STILL doesn’t have viable water, or least water that doesn’t make the residents skeptical.
And, that isn’t a municipal crime?

How can NOT be a case study on equity?
Nick Lyon (pictured above), the former director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, faced charges of involuntary manslaughter in the Flint water crisis. Charges against him were dropped on Thursday (NYT). “Among the officials whose charges were dropped: the former director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, a state epidemiologist, and emergency managers who had been appointed to oversee the city.” New York Times, June 13th, 2019.

Here’s some Zakiyyah Ali Educational Consulting, LLC advice to educators: be a . Build .
My gave me high school all over again, differently. I laughed more, grew and built more and more . That is the key to learning. “No significant learning can occur without a significant relationship (Dr. ).” These daughters of mine are soaring high because they have built relationships with each other, with me (I simply love them ♥️♥️), and most importantly with themselves and their goals. They have committed to doing and studying what moves them. said she never thought astronomy and physics were possible for her in high school, but by her first year in college, she figured out the business trajectory on which she thought she should remain wasn’t a challenge, and physics was. She’ll have her PhD in physics by 26... . got her pay raise (today 🙌🏾) because she understands her value and her worth in the world of architecture. How many Black women architects can you name? When she becomes a certified , she’ll be the first one I know.
Be a .

Today, I had the privilege of steering my client’s understanding of empathy, how (of all kinds) impedes our display of it, and the ways and reasons we choose empathy for some and not for others. We had robust discussions about social & emotional learning components, and worked collaboratively and independently on various empathy activities...not your average content...always critical and empathetically culturally competent...”Every child deserves a (),” and, so do adult students, too!
