Freshman Experience Day 1 - A few highlights from the day

Diego Aguillen ’28 and Jacob Lange ’28 take us inside the first day as the Class of 2030 was welcomed to campus by Buck the Stag, Father Josh, President Father Albert, and Principal Dan McMahon.

From House chant competitions and Calleva team-building games to plenty of fun in the courtyard, our newest Stags are already beginning their DeMatha journey.

Here we go! DeMatha's very first football game was played in October 1949. And so we start another season taking on Spalding at 7pm at the Sports & Learning Complex in Landover. We will provide quarterly updates right on this thread.
(First person to post in the comments, "What's the score" -- will be penalized 15 yards!). Here is your streaming link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=izzEMlNRpRE&ra=m

Go Stags! FYI -- the school opened in 1946 but did not field a varsity football team until '49.

After 1, 0-0.
At half. Stags up 14-7
Stags 28-7 after 3

Stags win 35-14!

For the past five years, George and his Zest Catering team have been keeping our Stags well fed. We are so grateful for all they do for our DeMatha community.

George is one of the familiar faces helping make campus feel like home.

Thank you, George and the Zest Catering team, for taking such great care of our Stags!

From the DM Express:

In July, DeMatha announced that Bryce Bevill '90 had been named Interim Football Coach, while Bill McGregor dealt with personal matters. Bill remains on staff as the Director of Football Operations.

Bryce was a standout football player at DeMatha, Syracuse, and in the Canadian Football League, He has extensive coaching experience at the high school, college, and professional level.

With tonight's big opening game on the horizon, we had this brief Q&A with Coach Bevill.

DM: How do you feel heading into this game?
BB: I am humbled. To come back home to the place that helped establish my foundation as a young man....I first walked on this campus in 1986, 40 years ago, and now I have the opportunity to impact the next generation of DeMatha young men. I am awestruck.

DM: The bar is set very high at DeMatha. How do you feel about that?
BB: It is a part of our culture. We run to the competition. We are not intimidated. We hold each other accountable through competition....It is all about the school's pursuit of excellence in everything we do, on and off the field and in the classroom. You don't want to let your classmates, teachers, or coaches down.

DM: You were coached and taught by Morgan Wootten, Bill McGregor, Buck Offutt, Dan McMahon, Ed King, the list goes on and on....
BB: They were all part of my development as a student and then when I came back to DeMatha as a counselor and a coach. I worked as a freshman basketball coach, so I had the chance to sit with Coach Wootten at Ledo's and listen to him talk about the development of his teams, his practice schedules, the program in general. Bill McGregor taught me communication and developing relations with the school community, and the community at large. My passion for reading was shaped by Dan McMahon. I could go on. This is a full circle opportunity for me.

DM: Any predictions on tonight's game?
BB: We will play hard, together, and for one another.
One brotherhood. One mission. One DeMatha.

We wish Bryce and the team all the best this season. Go Stags!

Game is at 7pm vs. Archbishop Spalding at the Sports & Learning Complex.
