Art Works Now We build & nurture community through inclusive visual arts & social justice experiences We believe that art works, on both an individual and community level.

Art Works Now was founded in 1990 after we recognized the need for a well-rounded approach to creative arts education. Today, with a new studio home, Art Works has expanded its range of classes and refined its mission. By providing an avenue for students to envision, create and exhibit their artwork, we can realize this vision in a tangible and holistic way. Mindful of the relationship between creative education and the creative development of our community, we remain committed to teaching art technique, encouraging each student to “see” in their own way, and providing multiple opportunities to explore, express and demonstrate their vision. Art Works Studio School offers a “blank canvas” for every student to develop their individual creativity. We provide the tools, techniques, and a great studio space, along with instruction that encourages creative exploration, and peers for encouragement and collaboration. Our mission is to inspire creativity and confidence in people of all ages through arts education. Our primary goals are to offer affordable visual and life arts classes for all ages, provide an avenue for emerging artists to exhibit works, and to create a safe, fun environment for youth within their community. The life of a community benefits when people realize their potential and explore their creativity. In this way, art works!

Our fall ceramics classes are underway!

Have you wanted to try out the pottery wheel before signing up for a longer course?
Looking for a fun date night or night out with friends? This is your chance!

Teaching Artist Masha Soboleva will teach you the fundamentals of wheel throwing in this 2-hour class. Just bring yourself and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty (we have aprons but clay has a mind of its own!).

You won’t make anything to take home, but we promise you’ll have a great time!

Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of class. No one will be admitted after the first 10 minutes of class.

Ages 9-12 are welcome to attend but must register along with an adult.

Bring your wheelchair, walker, scooter, skateboard, or other wheels to our courtyard and help us create something extraordinary.

All ages and abilities are welcome!

Let’s put away technology and gather to create in community! With vinyl albums as our background music, and devices turned off or left in the hallway, Teaching Artist Sharon Burton will provide prompts and support for you to make art in an analog environment! Bring your own work in progress and/or use our studio supplies to start something new. We’ll provide w**e and seltzer to keep the creative juices flowing. Reserve your spot in all 5 sessions for $50 or pay $20 per session at the door to drop in.

Portfolio Development, Drawing & Painting for Middle School Students (Ages 10–14)

If are considering applying to a high school visual arts program or want to refine and improve your personal art practice this is the class for you!

Work on self-portraits, original design, still life drawing, mechanical drawing, and drawing a corner of a room.

Have the opportunity to work on sketchbooks and independent pieces and receive feedback along the way.

The class also includes practice giving and receiving constructive criticism and discussing their artistic practice in preparation for the interview portion of high school applications.

Our fall classes are in full swing! It is not too late to sign up for youth art classes.

Artful Afternoons are a great opportunity for young artists to really stretch their creativity and learn new skills and techniques.

Register for Mondays or Fridays, or both!

Students will engage in different activities and artistic mediums during each class. We follow the model of process based art. This means for each activity we provide project suggestions, examples, and lots of materials, but the kids have the freedom and choice to create as they desire. Often this means that our artists create a lot but may not have fully finished, framable art to bring home. At Art Works Now, we focus on the process of creativity and experimentation and not necessarily the final project.

With a maximum of 10 students, students will get personalized support and attention.

Drop Off and Pick Up: We understand that school end times vary; students may be dropped off any time, ideally by 2:30 if possible. Pick up is at 5:30 p.m. with late pick-up fees beginning at 5:35 p.m.

Cost depends on start date. Contact us for payment plan information.
