Many thanks to the St. John Paul II Choir for singing at my father's funeral yesterday. Everyone commented on how lovely the choir sounded and how they lifted our minds to God. Particular thanks to Mr. Fish and Mr. Keavy.
Another successful Earth Day Clean Up of Hyannis in the books. With over 55 volunteers, and thanks to our incredible sponsors, we were able to clean up 2 cubic yards (about 20 large trash bags) of litter from downtown Hyannis, the waterfront and 3 local beaches. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in this successful event, especially St. John Paul II School, who had 25 students volunteer their time! See you 4/22/23. (It's a Saturday, so we're going to take it up a notch...)
Garden Day 2022 was a huge success! With over 30 volunteers, we were able to make our campus come alive again! Special thanks to several students from St. John Paul II School and their awesome teachers who came to help!
Thank you Anne Smith, and your amazing group of student volunteers for helping us at our Kind Hearts for Kids Easter Event today! Our Foster Families and Grandparent families have been messaging me all evening saying how wonderful and kind your students are! I hope all of their parents are very proud, and we're looking forward to the next time we can work together! Thank you!!

Thoughts from an alum family ~ because education is about developing critical thinking skills, cultivating a broad reading base, and encouraging diversity of thought, especially in the sciences:

"Over the past 21 months, slowly and with much resistance, the layers of mythology around COVID-19 mitigation in schools have been peeled away, each time without producing the much-ballyhooed increases in COVID-19. Schools did not become hot spots when they reopened, nor when they reduced physical distancing, nor when they eliminated deep-cleaning protocols. These layers were peeled away because the evidence supporting them was weak, and they all had substantial downsides for children’s education and health."
Julie Wake, AFCC's Executive Director had the opportunity to share her path to leadership with high school seniors at St. John Paul II School.

"These kids are ready to conquer the world!"

Throughout the day and evening of Tuesday, December 21, the Cape community is invited to honor the memory of men and women who died in 2021 having experienced homelessness at some point in their lives. The Homeless Persons’ Memorial Service is an opportunity to remember these local individuals who have been a part of our Cape community. So far this year, over 60 individuals known to have experienced homelessness have died. The Service will be livestreamed at 5:00 pm. The service may be viewed through the link on the church website: www.fbchyannis.org.

The National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Health Care for the Homeless Council view Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day as an occasion to “remember those who have died and strengthen our resolve to work for a world where no life is lived or lost in homelessness” (nhchc.org). The event is traditionally held across the country on the longest night of the year in order to highlight the cold, harsh conditions faced by unsheltered people during the winter months.

Co-sponsors of this memorial include: Barnstable Police Department's Community Impact Unit, Cape Cod Council of Churches, Cape Cod Synagogue, Champ Homes, Duffy Health Center, First Baptist Church of Hyannis, South Congregational Church, Centerville, MA and Here Now Ministries, St. John Paul II School, Team M25, Vinfen, Federated Church of Hyannis and the Youth StreetReach Program of the Council of Churches.

Grade 11 students assumed their role as leaders of the school in the Junior Leadership Ceremony held on Wednesday. "In my life, I’ve found that there is more than just one way to be an impactful leader." Zane Thomas '23 and Alex Palmer '22 spoke and set the tone for a great year!

Important to the JPII experience is prayerful recognition of life's transitions. At the last student assembly of the academic year, students prayed for the outgoing eighth grade and incoming fifth grade classes. As the eighth grade left the building, each following class filled the pews of the class ahead of them, leaving space for the incoming fifth grade class.
