Today's Driving School Central Minnesota's premier driver's education provider. We offer home pick-up and drop-off for behind the wheel All other locations are classrooms only.

Our office location is 100 Century Avenue SE, Hutchinson, MN 55350. All correspondence should be sent to the Hutchinson office address. All visits to the Hutchinson office should be scheduled in advance to assure someone will be there to help you. We serve communities in Meeker, Wright, Stearns, Kandiyohi, Morrison, Renville and McLeod Counties.

Your vehicle's horn is an important safety toolโ€”but it isn't meant to express frustration, tell someone to hurry up, or let another driver know you're annoyed.

Under ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐จ๐ญ๐š ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ž ยง ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ—.๐Ÿ๐Ÿ–, ๐’๐ฎ๐›๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐Ÿ‘(๐Ÿ), when an overtaking driver gives an audible warning (honking the horn) while attempting to pass on a multi-lane or two-lane road, the driver being overtaken must give way to the right and must not increase speed until completely passed.

The Passing & Honking Rule

๐˜๐ข๐ž๐ฅ๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ: If a driver behind you sounds their horn to pass, you are legally required to move right when safe.

๐Œ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐ž๐: Once you yield or are being overtaken, you cannot speed up until the other vehicle has completely cleared and passed your car.

๐‹๐ž๐Ÿ๐ญ-๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ž ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ฑ๐ญ: Under related lane-keeping rules (MN Statute ยง 169.18), drivers on multi-lane roads must stay out of the leftmost lane unless passing or turning, making it doubly important to move right when signaled.

Horn Usage Limits

Under ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐จ๐ญ๐š ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ž ยง ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ—.๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ–, drivers are only allowed to use a horn when it is "๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ง๐ž๐œ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐š๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ž๐ง๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž ๐ฌ๐š๐Ÿ๐ž ๐จ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง" (such as warning others to avoid a crash).

Honking out of anger, frustration, or just to rush someone at a green light is technically a misuse of the horn under the law.

The new school year is here, and as you head back to school, remember that getting there safely is just as important as getting there on time. Whether you're driving yourself, riding with a friend, walking, or taking the bus, stay alert and be aware of the people around you.

For our student drivers, remember to:

1. Slow down and stay alert in school zones.
2. Watch carefully for pedestrians and students crossing the road.
3. Follow school-zone speed limits and traffic signs.
4. Put your phone away and keep distractions to a minimum.
5. Give school buses plenty of space and follow the law when they stop.
6. Give yourself extra time in the morningโ€”rushing isn't worth the risk.

A new school year is a fresh start, so make safe driving a part of the routine from day one.
