High school freshmen through seniors — and their parents — are invited to join us for a hands-on look at the fire service.

Students will see firefighting techniques in action, meet HutchCC student firefighters, explore fire service careers, and learn about internship and summer job opportunities.

For the past several years, our department has proudly partnered with the Hutchinson Community College Fire Science Program by hosting student interns each semester. These interns are assigned to a shift and, when not attending classes, work regular shift hours alongside our personnel. This partnership not only provides valuable support for our crews, but also gives the students hands-on training and real-world experience in the fire service.

This semester, we were fortunate to have three outstanding interns who are wrapping up their time with us this week. As a parting gift, they presented our department with this incredible handmade flag — a truly meaningful addition to our station that reflects the pride and tradition of the fire service.

We want to wish the very best to Hunter, Landon, and Simon as they continue their careers. They are graduating and two are preparing to begin their journeys with fire departments that are gaining a pair of exceptional recruit firefighters. The third is in the running for a full-time position, and we have no doubt he has a bright future ahead of him as well.

Thank you again, Hunter, Landon, and Simon. We appreciate your hard work, dedication, and professionalism, and we wish you all the best in the future!

Today was the annual Hutchinson Community College Fire Science career fair. This is a great networking event for students that brings departments from all across the state to the HCC Fire Science campus. Firefighter/Paramedic Strotkamp and Firefighter/Paramedic Richardson are proud to spread the good word about Newton Fire/EMS!
