Something new is launching in Hutchinson this week!

The Cosmosphere is proud to host the inaugural Girls Who Code meetings in Hutchinson, giving local students an opportunity to connect, learn coding skills and explore the possibilities of technology and computer science. This free, weekly after-school program is open to girls in grades 6-8 and 9-12. No supplies or experience necessary!

💻 Grades 6–8: Tuesday, October 6
💻 Grades 9–12: Wednesday, October 7

Girls Who Code is a nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology by giving girls and young women opportunities to learn coding and computer science. Through clubs and programs, students build technical skills, confidence and a community of peers while exploring careers in technology.

We’re excited to welcome Hutchinson’s first Girls Who Code participants and help inspire the next generation of creators, problem-solvers and innovators.

Here’s to the beginning of something great in Hutchinson!

your journey doesn’t have to look like mine. Keep believing in yourself, even when nobody sees your vision yet.
There will be days you feel tired, discouraged, or like giving up. Don’t let those moments define you. Stay focused, stay humble, keep learning, and keep moving forward.
One day, the struggles you’re facing today will become the story that inspires someone else. Keep going your time will come.

The question: What has CosmoEd been up to lately?

The answer: A LOT. Like…a whole galaxy’s worth of education, outreach, science, and adventure.

Here’s a peek at where our Education Team has been making science come alive:

Welcoming our weekly STEAM Academy students: diving into aerospace, engineering, innovation, and hands-on learning every Wednesday! These students are designing, building, experimenting, and imagining what’s possible.

Adding some space art to DCI Park for Hutch Rec: because even our parks deserve a little cosmic flair!

Safari Adventure Day at the Sedgwick County Zoo: science + animals + curious kids = a pretty perfect day.

Celebrating 50 years of the International Forest of Friendship in Atchison: honoring a place that brings people together from around the world.

Space photography outreach in Weskan: taking the universe to students all the way across Kansas!

Weather & climate outreach in Cawker City: because Kansas weather always gives us something to talk about!

University of Kansas School of Engineering: connecting students with engineering, innovation, and the possibilities of STEM careers.

Girls in Aviation Day at the Kansas Aviation Museum: inspiring the next generation of pilots, engineers, scientists, and aerospace leaders!

Presenting at the ASTC Annual Conference in Phoenix with new friends from the Sternberg Museum of Natural History and San Diego Natural History Museum: connecting with science and technology centers from all over and bringing new ideas home to Kansas.

Our first Scout weekend of the year: exploring, learning, and making memories.

And that's just the last two weeks. 😳

From weekly STEAM Academy classes to Kansas classrooms, zoos, parks, universities, aviation museums, scout camps, and international science-center conversations, our team is doing what we love most:

Bringing science to people wherever they are and helping them see that they belong in the world of discovery. 🚀🔭

The next generation of innovators is already here.

The coder who will write the software that guides a spacecraft.
The engineer who will build the next great robot.
The programmer who will create something the world has never seen.
She might be sitting in your classroom right now, wondering if she belongs in STEM.

At the Cosmosphere, we're creating a place where she can find out that she does. 💻

Our new Girls Who Code Clubs give students the chance to learn, create, problem-solve, and build the skills that open doors to careers in aerospace, robotics, engineering, computer science, AI, and technology.

Grades 6–8: Tuesdays, 4–5 PM | Beginning Oct. 6
Grades 9–12: Wednesdays, 4–5 PM | Beginning Oct. 7
FREE to participate
