Last Friday, midtown students visited the Hutchinson Public Library and learned all about the resources, teen events, contests, and other opportunities available to them! (Did somebody say free WiFi??)

Every student left with a library card - some brand new, some replacements - and many left with multiple books. We’ve already loved seeing those books being read during free time and at lunch!

A big thank you to Darcie and Shelby for setting up a book tasting and helping our students get familiar with such a fantastic community resource. How lucky are we to have such an incredible hub of resources available to all??

A huge THANK YOU to Mr. Canfield for donating an awesome record player for students to enjoy during free time, and to Permanent Records for helping us start Midtown’s record collection! 💿🎵

One unexpected perk of the new cell phone law? Lunch and free time are louder… because kids are actually TALKING to each other!

We’re looking for more ways for students to connect and have fun without a screen. If you have board games, decks of cards, skateboards, records, or other teen-friendly activities collecting dust, we’d happily take them off your hands!

Parenting can be challenging. There's no manual, no dress rehearsal, and no one does it alone — it truly takes a village. 💛 For 15 years, Dolly Parton has been part of the village for Reno County families.

Since the Dolly Parton Imagination Library launched in Reno County back in 2011, United Way of Reno County has delivered over 416,000 free books to nearly 12,000 local kids from birth to age 5 — with more than 24,000 books going out in 2025 alone.

And the impact is real: seven years into the program, kindergarten readiness in Reno County climbed from roughly 48–52% all the way up to 79%. That's what a book a month, straight to a child's mailbox, can do.

As Dolly says: "If you can read, you can do anything."

If you have a little one under 5 at home, enroll them today — it's free, it doesn't matter what your family's income is, and by their 5th birthday they could have a home library of up to 60 books. 📚

Senior Sunrise gave us a little bit of everything this morning. ⚡️🌅

There was lightning on our way out, but the clouds broke and the sun showed up just in time for the most beautiful sunrise.

Some of these students have been a part of Midtown for years, while others are new this year - but every one of them is an important part of what makes Midtown special. They have jobs, they participate in CTEA pathways, and they’ve already done a great job stepping up as leaders in our building.

We’re excited to make the most of their senior year… preparing them for what’s next and enjoying the time we have left together.

Our students crushed it today! It was so good to see familiar faces and welcome so many new ones to the Midtown family.

A huge thank you to our parents and families, too — it was clear you helped prepare your kids for the new cell phone policy, and they handled the change so well!

The countdown is on! 🎒📚💙💛

The first day of school is filled with excitement, fresh starts, and new opportunities. But we also know that for many students—and parents—that excitement can come with a few butterflies, too. That's completely normal.
