Excited to welcome our new School Music Coordinator and Upper Grade Teacher this Sunday! Take a moment to get to know Mrs. Grace Hennig below. We are very blessed to have someone with her credentials as part of our staff at Bethany! ⬇
Grace (Wessel) Hennig was born and raised in New Ulm, MN. She attended Bethany Lutheran College and then Dr. Martin Luther College, where she received her teaching degree with a music minor. Her first call was to Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Downers Grove, IL, where she taught grades K-3 and served as church organist. After spending time abroad she was called to Dr. Martin Luther College as a music instructor, and there she met Brian, who was also serving DMLC at the time. While Brian was finishing his courses at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Grace served as tutor at Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, MI. After marriage, Brian served as pastor both at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Garden Grove, CA, and at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London, WI, while Grace served as a church musician in the churches and taught piano at home and in Lutheran schools.
Hennigs moved back to New Ulm in 2013 where both Brian and Grace served as professors at Martin Luther College. In 2024 Brian was called to be an editor at Northwestern Publishing House, and the Hennigs moved to Hartford, WI. Grace served at Peace Lutheran School in Hartford and at the WELS Center for Mission and Ministry in the area of Christian Aid and Relief before receiving the call to Bethany Lutheran School.
Grace received her master’s degree in church music from Concordia University Chicago and an additional bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Brian and Grace have three adult children, Molly, Christian, and Natalie, and a beloved dog, June, has been with the family since 2014. In her free time Grace enjoys writing music, traveling, cooking, gardening, attending family events, and serving as a volunteer at the Center for Church Music at Concordia University Chicago.
