Can two people look similar on the outside, but have very different experiences on the inside?
That's the question Sarah Swenson explores in her latest essay.
Sarah is a licensed psychotherapist, a Mensa member, and works with both neurodiverse couples and highly intelligent adults. She argues that high intelligence and neurotype describe different things. One is about cognitive capacity. The other is about how the brain processes the world. When we blur those distinctions, we risk losing language that helps us understand both.
At the Mensa Foundation, we've been exploring this question from multiple perspectives. We've hosted conversations, published differing viewpoints, and commissioned new research because we believe some questions deserve careful exploration, not quick answers.

Then tell us where you stand. Is giftedness a form of neurodivergence, or something different?
